Manicouagan Footbridge on Trail TQ-3
A major blow for snowmobilers on the North Shore.
The Quebec government is closing the Manicouagan footbridge due to its deteriorated condition, which simultaneously cuts off access to the eastern part of the region via the federated trails.
Deemed too deteriorated and dangerous by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests, the structure is now closed to traffic.
Renovated in 2017 using untreated wood, the problem had been known for several years.
Repair work is estimated at $450,000, but a funding request submitted in January was not approved.
Faced with the impossibility of repairing the bridge before the next season, the club is exploring the possibility of setting up a shuttle service to transport snowmobilers and their vehicles from one side of the river to the other.
The situation is particularly concerning since there is no alternative route to cross the Manicouagan River, which does not freeze over in winter.
