Quite the adventure, RR. Thanks for posting conditions.  Great pictures.  You going over to Squatec and then south or just heading south down 85 straight to New Brunswick?

    mike

Mike, We are heading to Squatec and in thru Biencourt, Lee at Moose Valley has posted they have got some good snow overnight so it may be a challenging day😉

  3. We left Victoriaville heading for RDL via trail 35 and than up to 5 at Saint Gervais. We continued to experience what, I call, marginal snow conditions. Bare spots in some fields, clicking frozen ground and rocks on some trails. Still very rideable, but not what you would call classic Quebec trail conditions. It still is only January 4 th, so we are not complaining 😉, just relaying the conditions.

The 5 from St Gervais to Montmagny was by far the worst section, very rough and lots a gravel clicking along the hwy leading into Montmagny.

Once we started out of Montmagny and got into some elevation the everything changed to the better. The conditions from Here to RDL, where much more , good, classic Quebec trail riding.

The pics below depict how our afternoon went however, Backcountry 603 lost his 850 motor 30 Miles east of Montmagny , so unfortunately his trip was done, we continued on to RDL, and by this time the “Bomb Cyclone” was kicking in making the last 75 Miles very interesting traveling considering it was dark, heavy snow and high winds. We commented last night, over a few beers,  how you would be going along and all of a sudden the snow and blowing snow off the trees would completely white out your view for seconds at a time. We proceeded with the right tempo and caution. Arriving into the RDL club house around 6:30.  A full 275 mile day for sure.

Today we will see how the going is, and head for Moose Valley NB. The snow from last night and high winds will make this a fun ride for sure😉

Things should only continue to improve with each storm here

    Happy Trails

  4. I would concur with Mike, we are riding this area currently, Eastern townships and western chaudierre. and we all have remarked how it has been years since we rode extensively on these trails. Currently the higher elevations have plenty of snow, lower elevations are covered but marginal in places.  We actually have enjoyed the change of scenery, but do agree with Mike that historically the best conditions tend to be eastern  chaudierre and Bas St Laurent and Gaspe

one of my favorite areas here is the Ham Nord area, 1800 feet elevations  rolling hills and farm fields.

By mid winter, this area should be great, oh and the BRP Factory and Museum are always a treat to visit.

  5. We had a nice ride today down to Valcourt. Checked out the updated museum and had a great lunch at Helene's. The snow conditions here were marginal but rideable. Back up to Victoriaville for the night.  Heading east tomorrow.

Thanks road runner. Do you think we will be able to get in and out of the Delta OK?

Ultra, I am sure you have some favorite trails that you used to ride when you went to Lac St Jean area several years ago, anyway, my friends that are going on Dec 26 also asked for a few ideas on what to ride in late December.  They wanted to do a shake down cruise Dec 26, the Tuesday afternoon that they get there, than a loop ride on Wednesday and a saddlebag ride for Thursday and Friday. Here was my suggestions for them. I am sure you can get many other great suggestions too for a late December ride. Hope this helps and enjoy.

Ultra, they are so good at using the, typically lighter,  snow falls in valley and making perfect trails, that I believe you will be fine.  Only exception,  if we get a crazy warm up and rain, between now and than.  My friends are planning to base out  of the Delta as well.

  9. Ultra, My info is a week old now, but watching what they got in past few days since we were there,  and knowing the conditions prior, I believe you will be very safe to plan a ride out of the Saguenay valley on the 26th.  I have friends planning the same trip on the 26th.

You should find the valley and all trails east into the Valin mtns, Escoumin, Forestville areas with “mid season” like snow conditions.

The area has been blessed this year.

    Have a great ride

Thanks for sharing your adventure with all of us. Fantastic pictures.

Looks like Johnny 24 Widetrack is leading the cross country race!

How did all the new 850's hold up?

    mike

Mike, we are all pleased with the 850’s. Most of us bought these sleds and than did several modifications to suit our riding style before coming up. We still have a few more to do.  From BRP the Freeride  is geared, clutched and mapped for off trail riding, therefore sacrificing fuel and oil efficiency. We like to have our machines to cross over to both trail and back country, so some further, minor gearing changes and clutch  work will be going on, primarily for a little better mpg and oil consumption.

This is not a BRP issue , they have delivered a very well designed machine,  we all wish there was a way to check your option boxes on any sled, Get the clutching, mapping and gearing that you want from the start. Reality makes you understand that this would be difficult for the manufacting process. So that’s why people do up fits and modifications to these machines

The renegade’s that we had were perfect, they came out of the crate and hit the trail dialed in.

Johnny 24, had a great time, he broke several sections of trail and was very fun to watch How well he could handles that machine, a very experienced rider and snowmobile guide for the Grouix mountains .

    Best regards RR

The Pelchat trail is  groomed and connected to Mt Valin.  So a mini saddlebag trip would be possible and enjoyable. Our trip ended today, we were very fortunate to end up with 1660 Miles on our sleds.

A great start to our snowmobile season.

see you on the snow soon
