Now to the sad part of the trip. On our way up Friday afternoon while passing the gas station in Parent we saw a group of 6-8 enduro type motorcycle guys parked and hanging out. Also saw them (or maybe another group) a couple times over the weekend on the roads up around the area.
On Sunday morning Andre's wife got a text from a friend in Parent with bad news. A 40 yr old guy from Quebec City area whose family has long had a camp outside of Parent was killed on an enduro motorcycle within 500 ft of his camp driveway saturday night. Supposedly there were other people at the camp who actually heard the crash. He hit head on with a 19 yr old unliscenced, unregistered, and uninsured native indian kid in a pickup truck. A very sad thing to hear. Last year when I was there over the same holiday weekend on the same Saturday a young couple died in a plane at the Casey airport while at the fly in festival they had there.
Looking back through my pictures I snapped this pic at 3:02 pm on saturday heading back to the Gouin from Wemotaci. It's at the same intersection on the flats where the road splits up to the Gouin just east of Haltaparche. I stopped our Subaru, gave a "high five" out the window and snapped this pic. The guys all looked happy as can be and having the time of their lives. They were headed west towards Parent. I cant help but wonder if one of the guys in this pic might be the man who was killed. I have posted it and gave it to my friends up there so if so it will make its way to his family. The accident happened about 5 hours after I took the photo just west of Parent near the guys camp.
