  1. Now that's the way to start retirement. I sincerely hope you can do more of what you guys love to do for many more years. So rest up because next year is just around the corner. Your adventures put a smile on a lot of people's faces. Have a great summer.
  2. Alot of Canadians heading home. Lots of campers in the gas stations in Watertown before the TI bridge.
  3. Get a change Don do one more little ride just so you can let us know how it was. Lol. Have a good summer all.
  4. This will pass boys and girls. I'm so sure I'm going to trade for a new sled for next year. Now that's helping the economy. In my opinion.
  5. My granddaughter was scheduled to go to Ireland to visit her boyfriend that was going to school there. Her dad thought no she better not go. Good decision. My opinion. Anyway two days before travel from there was restricted his college brought all their students home. I'm glad they are both home.
  6. We rode the ferry last week over and back. It's very impressive. We went to the south side on Friday's 5 o clock trip. There were still large rollers from the Thursday storm. The ferry moved around pretty good. Being dark there wasn't any thing to see. We decided after 2 days on peninsula to take the 8 am ferry back to Godbout. This was something special as it was blue skies and visibility was perfect. There was a couple container ships we seen but the most impressive was the ice flows. The distance they are seen from and the size was impressive. I can't imagine what it is like when there is ice shore to shore. We rode 1500 miles including one storm day and two ferry crossings. The trails were typicall from great to after a storm conditions. No break downs, met lots of great people and had some great meals. All and all great trip as always and can't wait until next season. Thinking about more 2 to 3 day trips and not doing the 7 fo 10 day trips. My arms get tired and just get tired . Maybe my age has something to do with it. Maybe a new Renegade will help. Any way the ferry was great and it is something everyone should do at least once. And of course the bridge in Baie Comeau is so great to see and cross. Be safe all.
  7. I was there once many years ago and I think they had a couple very large dogs. Very friendly. So maybe this dog is called down sizing.
  8. I bet that's the sweetest thing that's been in that helmet. Just kidding.
  9. This may sound really stupid but I'm going to say it any. I'm 69 years old and when I was in the eighth grade in a small school in clayton ny a gentleman came to our class to tell us about the new generating plant In Oswego ny. He was there to educate us on nuclear power. He told us about bringing the cold water in and how the water going out was going to be super hot going out. I at the time was born and brought up on an island in front of clayton where my dad and mom were farmers. The river then would freeze by mid January and we could cross late into March. People used the ice as a highway to get to the mainland. They drove old cars and trucks and left them on the ice because the police wouldn't bother anyone aslong as you didn't drive on the streets. Anyway as a islander who for some reason thought about the ice for crossing I asked the question would this plant ever make the water warm enough so it wouldn't freeze. His answer was it is possible that the temperature may raise a few degrees but the effects are unknown. Since then there has been more plants built on lake Ontario and I don't know how many. Now we have high water and does the possible warmer water and high water effect the ice cover as far away as RDL. The river today is open and the bays that have always frozen solid are ice free. What ever is happening I don't know but something is happening. I guess we will have to wait until next year to find out.
  10. Thank you sir. We have never been north of the 93 3 intersection and of course that high bridge is on the list. The ferry ride is also appealing. Thanks again.
  11. We have a plan starting on the 24th to start in Shawinigan and head north to say hi to Bill at the Delta. After that go south to rt. 3 and head for Godbout. Question is has anyone used the ferry to cross over to Matane. Hopefully it's doing its job. Want to get across the river and end up down by Quebec city and back to the truck. Not sure and really don't care how long we will be riding to complete this trip. Any information on the ferry would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  12. Remember the days will be longer. That's a plus.
  13. I've read this post about riding on the water and it always scares me a little. I live on the St. Lawrence river and when it freezes there is usually a lot river riding. Now not all of the river freezes and there is a few boys that just love to find these places and ride their sleds on open water. This includes my oldest boy who doesn't do it as much. First it was I'll be fine and my answer was, it's not fair that I would have to come and find your body maybe. Then it was we have flotation jackets and my answer was well at least I can find your body. Final arguement was I don't want to raise your daughter's because their dad was stupid. Well the last reason got to him because there is no more quarter mile open water runs any more. Just to tell about one of their areas, when you guys from south cross the thousands island bridge amagine looking down and seeing sleds heading to clayton on the ice below. Oh wait, there's no ice ever. They call these people river rats. No one said rats were smart. But I have been told the Ski doo outback 850 will pull its skis on open water.
  14. No it can not be purchased. Only online. Go to FMCQ and select purchase trail pass and follow directions. You will be able to print off the pass to take with you. You have to have the pass on you when you are riding tho. Good luck
  15. In 2017 we did the loop and rode into Gaspi just to say we were there. Anyway I took a picture of that old generator on the same angle as this picture. I still have it.
  16. Does anyone know if there is a shuttle service in Trouis- Rivieres to the north side of the river.
  17. Another thing I think about is the difference between say a 2005 sled and a 2018 sled. The 05 sled you rode down the trail 55 and you were on your toes. The 2018 and newer sleds, and we discuss this, so many trails are so flat and straight you can go 70 and its like sitting in a chair. Everyone knows it doesn't take long to get to 70 on any of the new sleds. Lots of people you meet are going faster than 70 too. Only my thoughts.
  18. I agree about hand signals. Who would go around a sharp corner and take their hands off the car steering wheel. My bitch is when people do meet the first rider in a group a lot of people don't slow down knowing there is more riders coming. Snowmobiles are made to be driven with two hands. Only my opinion.
  19. Just a question. Is this the only open water area on the lake. I know there is some near St Felish, spelled wrong, on the north end. Is the center of the lake frozen. I see there must be lots of ice where the helicopter crashed. Just wondering.
  20. Is commercializing the snowmobile sport wrecking it for the father and son, best friends etc riding the great trails of Quebec. If government wants to intervene they should limit the party size. Like someone said they put people on sleds and tell them about the throttle and brake. Amazing.
  21. I think something strange happened with this group to cause such a tragedy. Either they got separated or there was something with the weather happened. I was born and brought up on the St Lawrence river and while crossing on the ice a few times a storm has made things very uncomfortable. Only my opinion. So sorry for these people.
  22. I agree about it is for high altitude. What I read was 165 hp at 3000 ft and 165 at 8000 feet. Mine has enough moving parts to worry about so a turbo I don't think I need. Only my opinion. Great day tomorrow, my oldest boy and a couple of his friends are headed for Mont laurie and then north. No plans yet for a sleeping spot. Going to be a good time.
  23. H op pe you were back tracking in a car and not a snowmobile
