  1. Did Ed make it to Goose Bay? Any word on his sled?
  2. You guys are not pushing the Nh boys to hard are you? Howard tell Kris and Ed Steve says hello Looks like things are going well.
  3. We should start a new sled fund for Ice Man. Every year he buys one, it snows like hell. Cheap insurance!
  4. I have seen these on the trail also, just outside Sawmill 54. The coolest thing I have ever seen on a sled was last year, a herd of caribou, on the Pelchat trail, just after the school bus. My camera was buried and I could not get a picture.
  5. I have a 12 Vector. I run Mobil 1 0w-30. Any 0w-30 would work. In a pinch 5w-30 would work, so long as it does not get stupid cold.
  6. I have a 2012 Vector. Two weeks ago we left Shawinigan and rode to Hearst Ontario and back. 2100 miles round trip. I averaged 14 to 15 mpg. My buddy has a 1200 Doo Shorty and usually beats me by a couple of bucks. The 1200 has more pull than the Vector. On the trip the Vector started at minus 28. It did not want to but it did. The Vector is what it is. Rock solid durability and fair fuel mileage. It is tractor tough durable. Not a sled you want to be in more than 12 inches of snow. It does not do any one thing really really well but the some of it's parts make it a pretty good sled to tour Northern Quebec. A 900 Reni may be on order for next year!
  7. This is coming from a Yamaha guy who currently owns a 12 Vector with 10,000 miles on it. I am 47 and have rode in PQ since I was 18. Buy the Skidoo. For trail riding I don't know how you beat a 900 Rene. The Skidoo will get 20 mpg and the Viper maybe, maybe 15. Much easier to carry fuel and luggage on the Skidoo. Way more dealer support with a Skidoo in Quebec. I have a buddy who put 100 miles on a 900 Expedition and loved the sled. I would not look past this sled. The Viper will beat it on top end, but who cares. The Viper is a Cat with Yamaha clutches. I would stay away from it. I like the Vector, Like the Apex, especially the XTX. I would not touch a Viper with a ten foot pole. Just my 2 cents.
  8. Ice is that an XTX? The blue looks good. How many miles did the 08 Have on it? People laugh at Yamaha but they will run 20,000 miles. You will love the power steering. With the EX-Up exhaust that thing will pull like a freight train!
  9. Just on the other side of the bridge North of Riviere Mattawin. Trail 369
  10. Is that considered brand bashing? LOL
  11. Hey Benz I am not busting your balls. The point I am trying to make is at least it gives you options. I figure 3 gallons will get me 50 miles. That is enough to get to Repos or down the plowed dirt road to SMDS. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
  12. when you ride The northern trails you absolutely need to carry extra fuel. I ride a Vector and carry 3 extra gallons of fuel. If you get to Clova on fumes and the tank is empty you are screwed.
  13. If you take the local trail from ST Hedwidge to the 373 you should be fine. It is a pretty good trail and it keeps you away from the Roberval.
  14. What? Only 3 out of 25. #3 in the country. Oh by the way the USA under 18 Junior Team won Gold again in Russia. Where did Canada finish?
  15. I had one more thought on the stolen truck/sled issue and I will le it go. I am 46 years old and have rode in QC since I was 18. I average 4-5 thousand miles a Winter, 7-8 thousand pre 3 daughters. I am in QC on average 3 weeks a Winter. That is close to a year and half spent on snowmobile in QC. I am a proud American from NH that loves Canada. I have never had a problem. I love the Maratimes, I love that curling is on TV, I love the Canadian nationalism, that when you walk in to a bar or motel during the Olympics it is on TV, in some weird sort of way I like that Canadian money is worth more than American, it shows how far the country has come in 10 years, I like that Canada is our Northern border, I like that the second best hockey players in the World come from Canada, I like that it gets to -40 during the Winter, I like that QC is French speaking and proud of it's heritage, I like that I can ride my sled from Gaspe to Val Dor. During the late 90's and early 2000's the theft problem in the ST. Zenon area was out of control. I have a good source that puts the number of stolen trucks and sleds in the thousands. The last few years the theft problem has really dropped off. The economy, I don't know. I hope it is not rearing it's ugly head again. Let us also not forget about the lodge owner and his worker who were killed and burned in this area. As far as I know no one was ever arrested. I know of no one that ever had anything stolen in this area get anything back. This area has a dark side, a very dark side that no one talks about. It is too bad as it is beautiful with a lot of hard working honest people. It is an area laid out perfectly for snowmobiling. Good snow, good trails, nice small villages, and above all good people. I personally have chosen to avoid this area. I would not put a truck, trailer and sleds at risk. With that being said there are a lot of places in the States I would not park a truck and trailer.
  16. Linda, I follow a very basic rule. The less english speaking people the better. I love Cote Nord, Clova, Parent, Relais 22, Abitibi, Mt. Valin West,Bay James. We bag ride no day trips. Pick a nice Motel off the beaten path, disable the truck and you will be fine. I like to start in Riviere Matawin. Once you get North of Repos you will see no one. We did 1600 miles in the Cote Nord a week ago and passed 3 sleds, also saw a heard of caribou. We like staying in the bush. Windigo, Barrage Guin, Hotel Tamarac etc.
  17. I have been riding in Quebec for 25 years and thankfully have not lost anything. I currently have a Chevy Duramax. You can not let your guard down. I have always covered the Vin# on the dash. Anybody with inside access to a dealership can have a key made. They like to steal trucks close to the big port cities, ie Montreal and Quebec because it is easy access to a container to go over seas. From ST. Zenon you can be in Montreal in a hour. I always park the truck nose into the snowbank. I also pull 3 fuses under the hood and under the dash. You need to pull more than the starter relay. To obvious to anybody that knows what they are doing. I have not ridden around ST. Zenon, Thetford Mines, etc. in years because of this. There is better riding in other parts of Quebec. I follow the same procedure with the sleds at night and also run a cable through them. It sucks but that is the way it is.
  18. I have a 2012 Vector and put 4,000 miles on it this winter all in Quebec. I averaged a solid 15.5 mpg with the numbers taken off the gps. I ran from Lebel to Chapais on a tank of fuel and also from Barrier Due Nord to La Dore on a tank of fuel. I have owned 2 Apexes in the past and The Vector is a far better sled, no questions asked! I have the ability to carry 2.5 gallons on the boards and this gives me a range of 175 miles. Any specific questions shoot me a pm and I will try to answer them. Due your self a favor and buy a Vector. I also ride with guys that have 1200 Doo's. Great sled, nothing bad to say. When I replace the Vector it will be a tough decision between a 1200 and a Vector.
