Shane
Good morning all! With massive warm up here in upstate New York, myself and three friends are considering heading north around mid-week. Our goal is to avoid the areas that will likely be th emost impacted by the forthcoming meltdown. That being said, we are considering the following; Lanaudiere region due to its close proximity, driving to the HI in Saguenay because, well....it's PARADISE, or doing a Gaspe Loop. All have their own particular benefits and drawbacks. I have looked and cannot find and really recent reports other than from our dear friend Saguenay Bill. Any insight to current conditions would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks, Shane
Brdgbldr85
Shane, I just returned yesterday from a 10 day trip to Quebec. This is my personal opinion," I would stay at the Quebec Inn in Quebec, the whole area around the city has 1.5-3.5 feet of snow with great base to boot. We rode north and east mostly. Going north toward L Etape, going east to Charlovoix Casino and Sacre-Coure and can continue up to Mt. Valin. We are friends of Bill's at the HI in Jonquiere. The immediate riding from the HI is in need of more snow, trails are passable and cooling is OK. Trails are Great From St Horne and north into Valin. We trailer to the Ski area at ValinOuette to avoid the trail ride up. Trails are great after you get 20 miles away from JQ and go 383 east to Clermont. Trail 83 going east from JQ was awful. We just rode 565 miles around Quebec City and all trails were groomed". Mid week riding as we did Wed-Friday was even better. We like the Quebec Inn for Security of Truck, Trailer and sleds. Prices are reasonable and food is good. If you want more detail about these areas just pm me back for an E-mail. Are total miles for 8 days of riding was 1264 miles Edited February 14, 2011 by Brdgbldr85
towing
Hi Shane just to give you an update on Lanaudiere, we had received near a foot of snow since last friday (11 feb.) and maybe a other 6" in the week before, following my last photo-ride report. No need to tell that it shape and improved trails alot, even the extreme south near home. I don't know what we will get in the next days but we at least have a good snow base to start with...let's keep our fingers crossed... hope this help... have a nice trip and take care Alain

Shane
Unfortunately, my riding partner had to cancel due to family "stuff" that came up. I certainly understand that family comes first. This warm weather here in the states combined with traffic I fear is going to chew up and acclerate the melting process in the states. I guess we will just grin and bear it and make the most of it! For all of you that are fortunate enough to be out there riding, ENJOY! revct1
Hi Shane, Sorry to hear your riding partner can't make it. There's always someone to ride with at the HI. We are heading that way tomorrow morning. Good luck. Jack & Sandi

RoadRunner
To the top! We are looking to leave tomorrow morning. Any input as to where the conditions are the best? Thanks so much. Shane, We just got back from a 3 day loop from Jackman Me to St george, to edmnuston NB, Moose valley NB and surounding areas. Even after the warm up on thursday friday, the trails have held up fine. Your are good to ride the Chaudierre/ bas St laurent areas if you please. You would be safe to leave from tetford mines area ect. It sounds like the gaspe is a safe bet as well. Groomers were out in full force friday night and anywhere from a dusting to 6" of snow fell friday night in places in the chaudierre region. Have a good ride wherever you choose to go RR

pauldking
Just a newbie question - I keep seeing references to HI? What is HI? Thanks By the way - not intending to hijack the thread - as a matter of fact SnoPro (posted on a similar thread) and a bunch of us were planning to head out the Charlevoix way on Wednesday so much of the info here is very helpful. The fact that the trails around Jonquiere are beat up is a little disconcerting. We are also considering Gaspe (which we've ridden before) but were looking for something new. We've never done the interior trails in Gaspe - are they really as nice as everyone says? Cheers
Shane
Paul, The HI is the Holiday Inn in Jonquiere. Yes the interior Gaspe trails are as good or better than everyone says!
Je me souviens
Paul, The HI is the Holiday Inn in Jonquiere. Yes the interior Gaspe trails are as good or better than everyone says! Shane, if you are looking to minimize miles hauling, I would consider straight up 87/15 to the park. There is enough snow, some ice but that is to be expected after a 50 degree Friday. The rain went all the way up to Chibougamau, so I don't think there is any avoiding it. My usual riding partner just got back from the HI said it was good from north of the river in sweet baby St-Raymond to the HI flat and hard packed. That's my input. Hope it helps. Snobeeler
The fact that the trails around Jonquiere are beat up is a little disconcerting. Cheers Do not avoid Jonquiere because trails are beat up around town. It only took 5 minutes to get past them and then all is good. No big deal. No big deal. Thanks - just not sure whether to start at the HI in Jonquiere or to start at the Casino in Charlevoix and ride up that way. We have up to 5 or 6 days to ride and trying to take in the Mt. Valins/ Saguenay region as much as possible. Our group is good for 350+ kms a day. If you start from Holiday Inn there are easily 5 or 6 directions to go from there. You could even do a overnight to Les Escoumins and or Casino. Definatly go thru Clermont from Jonquiere(trail 83) once as this trail is fast and fun.

We were thinking going to st zenon simply because of the proximity. Trails here in lake george ny are thin and bumpy. We are trying to figure what out next move is. We really appreciate all of your input. Shane
JToys
Pauldking, I would drive to the HI or stay in Quebec city, like it was previously posted, alot more choices for rides from the HI. Driving distance is essentially the same. You can ride to the Casino via the Clermont express and have lunch there then return to the HI! Just got back from that ride and all the trails were really good, the only area that was just ok was the 20 miles in and out of Quebec city, it was icey
