  1. Hi Snobeeler, hope your ride is going well.

We are heading to the Gaspe again next Saturday, start riding on Sunday doing similar loop.

Previous 4 times in Gaspe we missed the 595 north from LaCache. Curious how you are incorporating it into your ride?

We only have five days and our wives are on this trip so l think we will start in Mont Joli, when we get to the 595 run down it for 30 km then back track up to the 5 again and end up in Cap Chat or SAint Ann du Monts for the night.

Heading up there next week, lots of yellow going east saying icy conditions, has anybody ridden here recently and should I avoid the yellow or is it still safe to ride, thanks

We will be arriving there tomorrow mid afternoon so can report tomorrow night.
From Mekoos north they say it was all snow so surprised the 53 is showing yellow all the way to the north.

We are putting a trip together starting in RDL in 10 days. have a few lodging questions. First one is lodging in Gaspe. Stayed there a few times many moons ago. Anyone stay in recent years? Any intel?

The website for the CIE mentioned above in St Anne Des Monts had a picture that showed closed till April 15th. I called and that is a mistake. Will book there on the advice above and from Iceman.

Which loop are you doing? If staying at Hotel Cie and then heading east Hotel Caribou at Rivière du Renard is a good place to stay. http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_02/5F4517D4-D0AB-4C77-9CC7-20ABB1A63B53.thumb.png.2c6da2ca5dc8a013cf13f1373df04aac.png

  4. Night at La Francis we ordered in pizza, an extra large pizza was $43.00 before tip.

There is a good family restaurant directly across from the gas station, so you can sled around to it or about 5 minute walk from La Francis. For breakfast went to Tim Hortons, couldn’t go inside to order so had to get in drive through line up and walk up to window.

Stayed at Hotel Cie in Saint Ann des Monts. It was great, good food in restaurant and in the morning they delivered a breakfast wrap right to your room.

Also stayed at Interprovincial Hotel in Point a La Croix. Also a good place with good food in onsite restaurant. We were only in the Gaspe for 3 days as we spend another 3 days in New Brunswick.

The best stay on our trip was the Serpentine Lodge in New Brunswick. 2 star accommodations in a moose camp with 7 star hospitality and entertainment from Alyre the owner.

Alyre is a combination comedian/storyteller. Spent a great evening with him. Will definitely go back.http://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_02/270D293F-8843-4CF8-8F77-0B13D76D3F56.thumb.jpeg.0347fd7b2111257ff13d3951e94d544a.jpeg

  5. We did the Gaspe last week. As Groomer stated Abertville wasn’t open at that time. We rode past a couple others that were open, l can’t tell you names.

What we did find is some of the hotels that have restaurants the restaurants aren’t open at all of them.

Hotel LaFrancis restaurant was not open, nothing for breakfast either.

Seems no businesses can find enough help to operate.

  6. We always stay at the Comfort Inn so not sure on the access for the BW. Imagine can access from both directions.

There is a St Hubert’s walking distance from the BW. A&W across the road.

Inside the Comfort Inn is the LeCage sports bar and grill. Always great food, huge selection of draft beers.

West end of town by the Quality Inn is a Boston Pizza and a Micro-something restaurants.

  7. We started saddle bag trips in 2019 and 2020 at Motel Coronet in Sacre- Coeur.

Handy spot being on both the highway and trail. Can head north or east from there. Gas station and restaurant on site. Lots truck parking.

The rooms are dated and could use freshening up at that time. Fine for a sled trip, just not place would take the wife for an anniversary night.

Whether your heading north or east take the orange trails over to the Pelchat trail. Can head north to KM31 or east towards Forestville.

  8. Hi Jean-Guy,

We past through your neighborhood today.
Stopped at the clubhouse planning on having lunch but it was closed. I checked the website this morning said it was open.

Luckily we were able to eat lunch at the gas station.

Beautiful run down the 587S to PLC.

Saw a lot of moose tracks but no actual moose. Later afternoon and there was not any sled tracks  on the southern portion of the 587.

We had a great 3 day ride in the Gaspe. Crossing back into NB tomorrow morning for a couple days riding before heading home.

I would strongly recommend you run the northern portion of the 595. This is certainly one of the best rides in the Gaspe.  Run down to La Cache (+/-60mi), gas up and go back up, it is worth the ride. Going south on the trail and north have two different viewscapes.

For the Radar Towers and Mummies travel out the 587 about 9 miles past the intersection of the 591. You will come to a plowed road at about 7miles but the trail runs the ditch.  The secret trail is on your right at 9 miles, travel up it a little over a mile then swing left following the sled tracks.

Of all your river crossing options, I recommend Mundles without hesitation.

    Steven

    Thanks Steven

Should be able to find the tower this trip.👍

  10. Spending 3 days in the Gaspe next week as part of our NB/Gaspe loop.

Done the Gaspe 3 previous times but have a few questions:

    1. Never rode the top end of the 595 because we always did the loop. From Iceman photos and others looks like we should run down it about 30km south from the 5 trail to see the most scenic part?

    2. Radar Tower and Mummies near St Irene: where’s the secret trail entrance to get there. Last trip was looking for it and never did find it. Went up a couple different trails that led to wind towers.

    3. Crossing back into NB:

we will take Mundle towing shuttle from Campellton to PLC. At the very south tip of 587S at the village of Matapedia the sled trail is only about 1 km from the bridge on both Quebec and NB sides. If there’s fresh snow is this doable on the sleds or to much of a major road and not recommended?

Is there an ice crossing at Campellton sometimes if the weather has co-operated. Think l read someplace even if ice is safe club doesn’t stake anymore due to liability issues.

    Thanks Stevehttp://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_02/C5DD2A70-4F57-49C6-86C2-20104E8A08BD.thumb.png.05747b5c4ee717f891bc42045e3327cb.pnghttp://quebecrider.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2022_02/A61121E7-59D3-4661-9544-5C1525530124.thumb.png.4f616fa57ed2781471fc1ffd774dd89e.png

  11. The two tour companies l know of are

    1. Bonvoyage Snow Adventures

    2. Snow Tours Quebec

Both are operated by fellows from the U.S.

Both run Gaspe trips a couple different weeks in March.

Sure members here at QR could plan you out a route and lodging if we knew the following:

    1. Number of days you have to ride

    2. Pace you like to travel

    3. Preference for lodging, there is some very nice places if traveling with your spouse and there is some older motels that are suitable for the guys trip, maybe not so much if it’s your second honeymoon.

If travelling with your wife 200 -250 km a day would be a good distance. Lots to see and frequent stops to take pictures or enjoy the views particularly if it’s your first trip to the Gaspe.

I see the new 2021-22 FCMQ Interactive Map has a street view option this year. I happened to click on La Cache and it almost looks like a elevated view and it moves with my phone. Also noticed La Cache has installed a large bank of Solar Panels out back. That should lessen there issues if they have a failure with generators and likely reduce the fuel bill.

Steven I was looking at the street view of LaCache also. I see the motel unit beside the main building is gone. On their website it says no lodging available at this time. Do you know if they are building some new accommodations and have something available for this winter?

  13. Planning our trips for this coming winter assuming covid rules will allow us. Will spend a couple weeks in Quebec but would also like to spend another week in NB.

Few years back we spend 5 days riding northern NB and had a great trip. The furthest south we got was Hartland to see the bridge.

This summer we were in NB touring the southern part of the province on our Spyders before heading to Nova Scotia. Rode the Bay of Fundy Parkway trail which is beautiful.

Wondering what snow conditions are like mid February on a typical year in the Fredricton, Bay Of Fundy , Moncton area?

Figure Steven and Andy could give us some good input.
