  1. Longer is better, don't be scaried to consider 144". I have had 3 144" track sleds, the longer the better if you are doing big trail miles. Plus it gives a bit more floatation if you happen to be on a trip and get dumped on!! Just My Opinion
  2. Wow!! What a ride!! Thanks for taking us along Alain.
  3. That will be a nice sled with the longer track!
  4. I have a 1200 Renegade with 19,000 miles on it and am very satisfied. However the 146" track would produce an awesome ride when putting on big miles plus good floatation in powder. The Yamaha has a nice big touring windshield for those -35° days, however as Mike said the gas tank and storage being in the same compartment is concerning.
  5. Welcome to QuebecRider. All in all sounds like a pretty good trip. One piece of advice for riding in the Gaspesie: When you see the red chevrons in a corner, do not hesitate, slow down!!!
  6. I think I have rode off that ledge, it is on the trail between Godbout and Baie Comeau!
  7. I came from New Richmond to PALC last Sunday, things are very thin on the south shore. Driveable, but thin.
  8. Head for Murdochville La Cache area looks like they are getting a foot of fresh stuff tonight! Late March sledding in the Gaspesie can not be beat! Long days, low traffic, lots of snow, and some of the friendliest people in all of Quebec. Have a great ride!!
  9. Congrats on the new sled. A four stroke puts a whole new feeling to sledding in my opinion. With 4 stroke you may have some things going through your helmet, but engine issues will not one of them. I ran down the straight stretches on theTQ5 toward St Paulin last Sunday trying to keep up with Eddie skidoo, my sled has 19,000 miles on it, my only concern was if I could sneak by him!
  10. The Gathering was a great time!! It was good to see everyone again and to to meet some new faces to go to the names. Mikerider and I went for a great ride on the 587 when everyone else in the group showed up late at the clubhouse....no way it could have been Mike and I being there early. The trails were flawless and the day was perfect. Hope everyone enjoyed as much as I did. See you all next year. Steven
  11. Are you staying up for the Gathering??
  12. I have been traveling the Gaspesie since 1998, often a couple times per year. The Gaspesie can be an unbelieveably beautiful ride or can be a real monster!!! I have rode both many times. When I read your story and you said that you swept 9" of snow off the sleds in St Anne des Monts I knew how the rest of your story was going to go. 3-4" usually means 12-14" of fresh snow in the hills. I am very glad to hear that you are willing to come back to try again. The Gaspesie is known to best among the best places in the world to snowmobile.
  13. The old saying: A two stroke engine is like a hand grenade with the pin pulled, you know it is going to blow up, just not sure when.
  14. Looks like the Terry Fox, the same ice breaker that had to come when Andyman and I were locked in the ice.
  15. Just passing through Toronto now on the way home. I hope to be at Amqui Thursday night. Portugal was more interesting LOL!!
  16. That is a kick ass drag. I like the way they drop the sides to make a wider cut!!
  17. Great trip Andy!! I see from the picture of Mr Mugs sled behind the chevron, he did not follow Diesel's Rule #3; do not hesitate!! I will be up for couple beer and hear of your adventure....after I get home from mine.
  18. Hard to beat the Chibougamau loop. Go from Relais 22, travel west on the either the 83 or 93 then come back on the other. Once you have done the loop you will have a whole new appreciation of snowmobiling in Quebec.
  19. Bill has made an excellent point. If you are planning to snowmobile around Quebec, the first thing you have to be prepared for is the unexpected. Whether that be freezing rain, or brutal cold that a lot of QuebecRiders are talking about this winter. You have to have quality clothing, quality clothing is not cheap!! Spend a little bit more up front, you will never regret buying high quality snowmobile clothing when Quebec deals you and unexpected card!! Just my opinion
  20. Rolands in Perce or Fraser in Chandler going down the 597. Or take the local trail (orange) down to Carleton and stay at the Blue (cross from Murdochville to La Cache then south)
  21. PALC The Select (same owner as in Amqui, they have a new bar, a nice improvement) Gaspe Hotel Adams
  22. That sucks. An awful thing anytime, but even worse when your on a trip.
