While back at Lecabanon around 11 a.m. word is.......is was nothing serious and all is well.
BTW.....trails and overall day were perfect and splendid. The ride across reservoir Taureau and Lac Villiers  today with the sunshine, extremely low traffic and temps was almost surreal. Stopped at Kamawata, Casey for an hour (have new friends there) , Haltaparache (thanks Jean-Guy for the hot dogs) and now in Parent. 250 miles with my best friend in life today. Irreplaceable!!!!!!!!!

    Day 1 208 miles.

First day since a year. Shaking off the rust this morning. Off to a late start.

Trails were in good shape out of Matane. The first chop we hit was around Tourelle after Ste-Anne-Des-Monts. The trail in and out of Marsoui was choppy.
Over all it was a good start. I noticed the climb at Mont-Saint-Pierre was in pretty nice shape. The steep climbs are usually beet up.
We fueled up at the Esso in Ste-Anne-des-Monts. It’s about a mile and a half down a street. I’m glad we have wheels because the snow was running water down hill. I think today is supposed to be the warm day. It’s going to need snow for sure.
Here’s some pics on the way to Cap-Chat

Here is the map of our yesterday ride February  22, 2020  Joliette/St-Donat

With the very mild temperature forecasted and the very cloudy weather we hesitated to go to the Black Mountain knowing that we would probably not see it at its best but we had still tried our luck. About -5C at start from home under a very cloudy sky. Here in the St-Ambroise de Kildare sector

The propane crisis in the fall left its mark here and I would like to take this opportunity to thank this farmer in St-Ambroise sector who still let us pass through his unharvested corn field

at the shack north of St-Ambroise we continued on #43 trail

The #43 is beautiful but it is definitely a slower/more winding trail. Here a bridge that will need repairs in the St-Alphonse de Rodiguez sector

Here, crossing the Ouareau river via the shared bridge for snowmobiles and ATVs

On the other side the trails are distinct although they cross and overlap few times and it is a bit confusing in some spots

We then took #310 to go through Notre-Dame de la Merci where we refueled at Pétro-T gaz station. Their large parking lot makes it an interesting place as a starting point for many snowmobilers.

We then continue along the #125 car road via a local trail for joining the #33 and then the # 317 trail

To finally head towards the Black Mountain

    It's starting to rise...

It's starting to get snowier ...

And we arrive at the top just a little before noon. We were darn lucky: the sky has completely cleared and the sun was there!

    And gray jays are also!

With the mild weather, the decor was not frosty as sometimes but we were still very lucky to have had the sun with us. The temperature was mild and we ate a small snack right there to take advantage of all the beauties of the spot

We stayed there for a good hour and a half. In no hurry, we took advantage of the moment to admire the magnificent view ...

And we had fun with the gray jays who had fun with us too I think

On a clear day like that the view is simply spectacular ...

Sometimes there no need to being so equipped !!!

Kristine's technique with her old 2005 sony without zoom (which takes most of the photos from our reports) is just as effective!

    The result...

We had a lot of fun with them and I almost drained my whole Go-pro battery just during the time we were there ... surely some nice videos to come when I have time for the editing...

We finally left a little past 1:30 p.m.

Here coming down from the mountain

I forgot to indicate it in our route map but we went to see the Mont des Cenelles a little further. Vegetation has grown and it is starting to be more difficult to see well

The best part of the view is directly from the trail going down, really beautiful...

We then continued on the #33 trail and completely went around Archambault Lake

And then headed  east towards Coin Lavigne

Here at the junction of the restricted acces trail of Parc du Mont-Tremblant

A little further on the #33 trail we encounter this: a loader bogged down on the trail

They had to use a bigger one to get it out of there ... They did pretty much damage to the trail

But 5 minutes later we crossed the dozer which was already on the way to repair the trail damage

So we continued with very good trail conditions

And stopped to fuel up at Coin Lavigne

We then continued on #33 trail, the section which had been announced closed earlier in the week but which was now re-opened and groomed

We took the #343 to join the #63 trail

that we took to go down south. Here passing at the Domaine Bazinet outfitter

We continued south and the trail conditions remained very nice for a mild Saturday. Here just north of Ste-Émilie de l'Énergie down the big hill.

And here passing at St-Jean de Matha ...

We stopped to eat in St-Félix de Valois around 6:15 pm to take a good break. this section was the only one of the ride really worn out at the end of the day. Then we came back through Joliette. We finally arrived home around 7:45 pm with 219 miles on the dreammeter for the day, very happy with our visit to the Black Mountain which was even better than expected with the sun that showed up, and our ride with really good trail conditions on most of the route despite the mild weather.
We must admit that time flies and we will be entering March next weekend, so now is really the time to ride before it is too late! For ourselvest, we are taking our snowmobile vacation from next Sunday for a week and at the same time a ride report break. Continue to post your own ride reports!

    Hi Alain,
Thanks for taking us on another ride. You hit the mountain at the perfect time.
Sony made one heck of a camera in 2005. Kristine really knows how to use it. The photos are terrific.

We hope you have great weather and smooth trails on your vacation.

    Sunday 23 February
We were on the fence as to what to do today. After breakfast we decided to loop out and back to Forestel. Give Kwiknick a day to shakedown the Freeride before we get too far away.
Spring conditions already after this warm spell. Blacktop at alot of gas stops. Big puddles at road crossings, just sloppy. Trails are hurting. Traffic and not much grooming for sure. Hope it gets better for us because saw alot of junk today. Not so much traffic for a warm Sunday. There was some sections very good. 396 to 307 and the 93 from Amos and down to Seneterre., 83 also from Seneterre back to Val D’or. Nice run for a Sunday.
    252 miles 9:30am to 5:15pm
we will decide in the morning which direction to shoot.
    Todays Ride......

    Black Trail Day
Well time is now. Ride them or look at them all off season thinking about where you could have gone.
We ride again. Snohorse and Kwiknick arrived at Chez Ice. Around 10:15 am. All the hardware is  staged here at my house. Snohorse’s Trailer and Ski Doo’s are here already. Left weeks ago and won’t see US soil until the end. Much easier to travel for the boys without trailer. Why drag it back and forth if you don’t need too. So the 18’ 850 BCX has been in trailer since returning from Saguenay last Sunday. The 19 Freeride 850 was getting a new track installed after Kwiknick burned the 2.6 paddle off it going to Chapais awhile back, Freeride is a backup sled with low miles, Kwiknick has 300 miles on his 2020 Summit Expert 154” 850 3” paddle track. He climbs mountains he loves Chic Chocs.
The Freeride has been finished and waiting for me to go get it from St. Étienne, I chose to have Mrs. Ice drive me by car to Dealer. It’s a quick rip home from there by trail. In fact quicker than by road. Thursday night i go over with her. Freeride now has 146” 1.75 track. Very exciting for me as it will be the first 2 stroke sled I been on since 2006. Surely a big difference from the Apex XTX. Pretty snappy this thing but not used to big lugs no studs takes a little adjusting to my style. Pretty much any sled it don’t matter the setup if trails are nice, if you are a rider you can adjust your style and get on just fine. Doesn’t take me but a couple lefts and rights and I like this. Feels wicked light so light I am afraid of breaking it in half. Not my yamaha for sure. Nice fun ride back to house. Cool ride and way cool with almost non existent winshield. I liked it. I need to try me a Ace 900turbo just because. Anyway now sleds are all back together at my house and beat the wife home by easily 10 minutes.
All my gear is packed. My sled is in driveway with Freeride next to it. Waiting. We load Freeride in bed of pickup, its up on the tailgate strapped down solid. Pin the trailer, slip Apex next to BCX in trailer. Gear packed in trailer. Kiss the wife(most important) she is used to winter and me being on trail. On the road 11:00am.
Quick stop at ATM in Cap de Madeline. Hammer down 40 west. Smooth sail until near Louiseville, detour autoroute is completely shut down. Off onto the 138 seems like an eternity to loop off and parallel the autoroute bumper to bumper. Traffic. Sucks we loose one hour.
Turns out was a police pursuit of a guy who had threatened suicide earlier and ended with him having his tires spiked loosing control and pretty sure from what i gather he crashed hard and was killed. Big police investigation.
640 not too bad once on the 15 pretty slow here lots of traffic. We roll pretty steady to Mont Laurier typical stop. Gas candy candy bars some chips. Out of there up 117 hammer down now. Gotta watch it with these temps today very melty. Lots of lakes taking up lanes in places. No joke, water pooling and some places all the way on both sides just to yellow line. Deep too. Need to thread the needle. Most traffic headed down its clear in front. I push to makeup time. Pushed it hard. Touchdown Val D’or. 6:10pm. Checked in unloaded everything. Chilling in room.
Lots of sleds here and lots of trucks and trailers. Tomorrow probably some bingo here and up around Amos and Back. Here again tomorrow night then off to Chapais monday i think, then back through Lebel and up to Matagami Tuesday night. We shall see where the trail takes us.
Playhard we have your Monkers. He rides too.

We rolled in to the Quality Inn in Matane with 780 miles on the black trail.
We are going to try last year’s plan. We got snowed out last year after day 1.
We saw snow from Albany all the way to Matane. There were people riding sleds in Monteregie! We haven’t seen that in a few years.
We are heading to Grande Vallee tomorrow. I’ll post conditions.
