They are trying to find an alternative
Not sure if they can get approval for this idea but we shall see
Last possible solution for the 26-27 season
Set up a trail on the Manic 1 Bridge:
- Have snowmobiles take turns using a traffic light 🚦 that alternates traffic
A one-way trail on the bridge, as shown in the photo, with a low dividing wall (Jersey barrier) separating the snowmobile-only lane on one side (the north side of the bridge) from the summer bike path, but with a traffic light 🚦 installed to regulate traffic safely on an alternating basis.
Note: During the summer, cyclists are permitted to ride at this specific location, on the north side of the bridge, parallel to motor vehicle traffic.
This configuration would be safe.
The installation of concrete dividers would offer several potential safety benefits:
* The guardrails would help reduce glare for motorists by limiting the spread of snowmobile headlights into the lanes used by motor vehicles.
* Safety for snowmobilers, by physically delineating their lane with guardrails and reducing the risk of encroachment into lanes reserved for road vehicles.
* Enhanced safety for all road users by establishing a clearer separation between different types of traffic.
This proposal aims primarily to explore a temporary solution that allows snowmobilers and motorists to share the road.
The speed limit on the bridge could even be easily lowered to 60 km/h (the 60 km/h zone is already located 300 meters east of the bridge).
The guardrails could even remain in place during the summer to protect cyclists who currently travel in both directions!
