Yes there is a ferry that goes back. New plan is get to Baie Comeau and spend the night there. Get up and ride up the 3 trail north to Godbout area and if possible have a little lunch and ride back . If we get back in time to catch the 5 pm ferry to Matane that would be great but if not catch the next ferry the next day. Will be able to enjoy this special trail both ways. Our plan is to get to Matane and travel south on the 5 trail or 35 trail to Levis area and trailer back across the river and then ride to our truck. Now this is snowmobiling so things can change in a minute as we all know but part of the fun is the planning. It's an area we haven't been and before and I am getting older and I want see as much of Quebec as possible. I do have riding pardners  who are great and we all love to see new places.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and suggestions on the best way to ride this section of the Quebec trails.
Oh by the way I live in Clayton NY, really on a island, Grindstone, and woke up to it snowing and a white cover on the ground. It isn't November yet and it makes you wonder what is coming in the future. Thanks again. Be safe all.

Had lunch with one of the boys that goes to Quebec with David and me today. Showed him your post Mike.  Big smile came on his face and said I'm going there. Didn't mention we were going to cross a 700 foot long bridge that is 90 feet high. My land we are going to have a great trip.

And that works. My oldest kid got a new golden and headed for the beach. The stories were really something. Of course old dad wasn't  invited.

Great day today. Went to the Syracuse Big East snowmobile show this morning. Picked up a couple pairs of carbides for the girls. While I was there seen Bill at the Delta booth. Had a great talk about plans for the winter. He let me know earlier he was going to have trail passes with him so we are ready for Quebec riding. Called my kid to imform him he owed me 300 hundred. Bill said the place was packed last night and today there was a line out the door to get in. Did see some bulk Ski Doo oil there for 36 dollars a gallon but wasn't parked close enough. Won't be long now. Have a good day all and be safe.

Well I did something special today. I married the love of my life for the second time in our life. Wonderful day with our two sons and three grandchildren and many friends and family.  Only one missing was my step daughter.  Not because she didn't want to be there.  Life is great for us.

What's everyone's opinion on wheel kits. We, like everyone find in March getting to gas stations can be a pain as the carbides are kinda worn.  Has any one made their own that work? Thanks

I feel the best hotels and restaurants are gotten by word of mouth. If you start talking about a route you might take on this site people will tell the good and the different.  In 10 to 12 days you are going to hear about and see many many signs for hotels on the trail.  By the 7th day you may even have enough information about places you may change your mind where you had planned to stay. Don't fear just get on your snowmobile and enjoy. Get a place in mind and call at 3 in the afternoon and if they are full they will help you find a place.  The greatest place to snowmobile and the nicest people to stay with. Have fun.

With all the equipment installed have you calculated your gross weights.  Sounds like it will be heavy. Going to be something special for sure tho. Don't let it take up your snowmobile time.
As for our sleds we made a enclosed trailer for them  a few years ago that is sealed tight enough to keep to everything out.
Don, have a good summer.  Please post finished pictures of your new truck. It's going to be a beast for sure.

That truck is impressive and will be more when finished. The concept of excavating with a vac system is great way for exposing power lines to fiber optics.  We have removed tons of filter media from filter chambers in water treatment plants in North and South Carolina over the years. Always amazed me the amount of material that can be moved with a vac truck in a day. And the different types of material.
For cold weather use will the water tank be equipped with a heater to melt frozen material.  Just wondering.
As for the shop, that is for sure impressive.  Only question I have is that green machine on the shelf your back up or did you get a new ride. LOL. Just kidding.  Have a good day.

I had coon dogs and one of the things my pardner, who was a dog expert, always looked for the size. His size was a silver dollar.
Sometimes it was a little embarrassing when we went to look at dogs LOL. Best dog  I ever owned had a huge one and he was as a baby to my kids, slept with them. He wasn't so kind to a raccoon. Great memories. Made a lot of money with him. Late 80's we sold coon hides for 28 dollar average. Cash money. Averaged 135 pelt's per year for 3 years. Plus sold mushrat's for 8 dollars apiece average. Almost 12 thousand dollars split  in January in the 80's. That was a lot of money then. Lot younger then. Oh but the adventures we had.  Looking back it was a great life for a few years. sure couldn't do it now. LOL

I'm sorry guys but that's a dog's ass. A friend of mine once told me the size of the brown spot means a lot. Bigger the better dog. That looks like pretty good dog.

Still very depressing.  The thoughts of why I stayed home and not loading up and going alone. Well it won't happen next year I say. Now is the time to get prepared. Riding in Quebec is just around the corner. New communicators will be ordered.  New GPS needed. New carbides to order. New cargo bags. New trip planing for maximum miles and fun. My summer has been planned.  Now to get back to work to pay for the abovementioned.  Lol.

Don't get me wrong. I have the best riding pardner anyone can have. But he lives in North Carolina and 800 miles driving one way makes a weekend trip hard. Also he is my youngest son.  I ride with a younger group and they are all great to me but all have families and my wife is more understanding I guess. I think I have a lot more years left to ride but as some know this sport is special. The places to stay are like nothing else and the people you meet all have smiles on their faces.  The sleds are easy to ride. 200 mile days are easy. But the shorter days are still so relaxing. Planning a trip is so much fun enough though it never happens the way you plan. That's why we call every  ride a adventure.  So for me I am going to get my wife on a sled, even if it may be 100 mile days and the rest I'm going to just go and hook up with someone who is going north. There, I've made my plans now to keep them. Have a great summer guys.  Be safe.

This is a great idea.  Just wondering if the maybe it could be incorporated into a GPS and have it talk to other GPS systems and  the grooming devise that tracks the groomers.
I always ride in the back so my kid gets on coming traffic slowed down and some days it is brutil for him. He only rides on his side and as any one who leads knows some don't.  Our next year's investment is a GPS for him. Only an idea.

Is it not best to plan a ride later in February due to the weather in this area. Just my question not my opinion. I've never rode there but I will someday for sure. Seems like a lot of powder early in the year. Again only from what I read. Love reading the adventures of others. Well except getting stuck in 4 or 5 feet of snow. Is a wide track sled or deep lug track needed or would a inch and quarter or inch and half track be enough.  Again questions.  We always make a trip in early March so would that be the time for our adventure. Also how many in a group is suggested.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks . Be safe.

I agree Don. A few years back I came down a trail in western Quebec and the trail was so bad it tore my saddle bags apart. I happened to meet and know the club president so I called him and bitched. The next day he personal rode the trail. The outfitter where we parked I called to apologize to because I bitched to him too told me the club president was upset as well. He also told me that a contractor was hired for that length of the trail and he was replaced. I personally should not of bitched but.
