    First of all I'd like to thank everyone for not passing judgment before I got to post the facts.  Everybody makes mistakes, including Tom.  He missed a Chevron sign himself and blew off the trail 3 days after this incident.  It happens.  The decision was made to turn around; I would never, ever go on a recon mission 30 seconds after the decision was made by both of us to turn around.  Tom's sled was never buried.  I was leading with a 121 track.  He should have been leading with his 144, but that's my opinion.  My snowmobile will not move in 4' - 6' of powder as Tom said the Scandic did.  From where I went off trail is 30 feet, not 30 yards as Tom stated that he would have to walk.  Also, by looking at the picture, anyone can tell that it's not a 35 - 40 percent grade. Plus you can see that it's about 300 feet not 250 - 300 yards as Tom stated.  If he would have walked that 30 feet of powder, he would have saw me, but that didn't happen.  I understand that Tom has asthma and the best thing for him to do is turn tail and run for help, which he did and I am grateful.  I just wanted to state the facts and correct the inaccuracies of this thread and do a followup on my 2-1/2 hr. experience waiting for help.

    Just think if you had helmet communicators....  Would have saved a lot of BS...
    I would ride without GPS before riding without communicators.

    Yup,you were stuck!Looks like you were turned around and trying to get back up the hill.I would love to hear him tell this story in a couple years at a bar some night.You would have been adopted by Eskimos for the winter after they found your near lifeless body and took you in.Is he also a fisherman? LOL
    Glad no one was hurt and you got out safely.Nothing like working up a little sweat in riding gear.

    Actually it should say "to" L Etape.
    Two = the # 2
    To = going
    Too = also
    I too am also going to L Etape on trail # two.
    English language is a bitch

    If you read further down that link, it spells out no SXS, etc.
    Maybe I am one of the few happy to see this b/c these 'snobikes' don't belong on groomed trails because they are only using them to get to a place where they can go off-trail. In many cases, they also do not have the same safety equipment as a snowmobile (working head/tail light, compliant exhaust system, etc). Fine for western US / Canada where there are more off-trail opportunities but not here IMO.

    Jim will be sharing his story including his thoughts, emotions & actions he endured & performed during his short lived (thank goodness) ordeal & will be starting a thread on winter survival preparedness we all need to be better educated about.

    I have a Yamaha Viper, the other 4 usually ride with all have ski-doos.
    Not fun on the -30 C morning when my Yamaha won't start because of a simple fuel relay while buddies are all geared up ready to roll. If the Fuse box was accessible wouldn't be big deal to throw a warm relay in. Some genius engineer put the fuse box under a hood that is a major pain to remove in a warm shop.

    Tried my aggressive snow trackers on my 2016 1200 Renegade x 137" for the first time last weekend.Went from Thetford up to RDL to   Cabano to Lac Etchemin, down to St.George and back to Thetford in all kinds of trail conditions from fresh snow on top to hard fresh groomed and everything in between.They handeled it all very well.They steer easy,go where you point them and don't dart at all on any trail condition.Even first one on a fresh groomed hard trail in the morning.Tried to get them to dart by running in the line the drag made.Dead straight like it's not even there.No fighting to get out of that groove.Set the skis at zero toe and loosen up the ski springs and you don't have to tighten up the front track shock.Set up your suspension for comfort and ride.The least amount of push on soft snow in the corners out of any combination I have had on any sled/carbide combination I have tried over the years including Bergstroms with shims and duallys while still steering easy.It takes a while to get the confidence that you are not going to blow thru a corner because you can't believe they will hold the line.Never had a simple change so positively affect the handeling as much as these.And you don't have to adjust them thru the day to stop darting or turn in soft snow as conditions change.

    I run my front, centre and rear shocks all on the lowest setting. With snow trackers you adjust your shocks for comfort not steering.

    Well you participated in this thread for 2 months now and just now you think it's unfair cause a thread from 2 years ago was deleted? That should have been your first and only post in this thread. Sorry but this is what is wrong with this world today everybody's so sensitive and gets their feelings hurt over a conversation. If we can't discuss things in the General Discussion forum other than snowmobiling than I don't want to see one more Happy Birthday post either. Seems only fair. Birthdays have nothing to do with snowmobiling so if we are gonna become all strict on what can and can not be posted, it's just crazy that we need to be censored. No one attacked anyone in this thread or bashed anyone so I am sorry i see no problem with an adult conversation. Those who care to be a part of it can be but no one is forcing anyone to be in it if they do not want. Does not say Politics is not allowed. And like I said before who has been offended? Sorry JG I just do not agree with your view on this. And that's ok you are entitled to your opinion and me to mine. That's Life. See you on the trail.

    The primary goal of this website is to increase understanding and communication between French and English speaking snowmobilers in the United States and Canada. Too often a different language can create an artificial barrier between individuals that otherwise would share many common interests. With that in mind, please be considerate of others when posting to our forums. Free speech is observed, but conversations involving politics should be carefully guarded so as to not offend others that hold different viewpoints. "Country-bashing" will not be tolerated here under any circumstances. Failure to observe this rule will lead to post deletion and/or limitations of your posting ability.

    Can't compare the two the Ski Doo is so much better it's not a fair fight. Doo is smoother and handles 100% better. My Yamaha had a vibration from new that drove me crazy. Let me qualify that the Yamaha part was great the Arctic Cat part left a LOT to be desired.
