Phil you went from seneterre to chapais? No stop at lebel sur quellvion?

Correct we were going to stop but I missed the turn, having too much fun. It was one of those errors that is made. My 600 still had some gas the Mach was getting close.

So almost 200 miles with tour buddy of course. Correct? Seneterre to Chapais like 192 miles or so.

Do you mean the turn off the rail bed for Miquelan stop is what you missed? Or no?

Yes I missed that turn. When I realized I missed it we slowed to be sure that we didn't have to push. If the trail was not hard & fast we would not have made it. That is why I was taught to carry fuel you never know what may happen.

The old bridges on the 93 "railbed" provide a short breather. That trail is quite different on a 4 stroke then my years past on the 2 smoke. No worries holding the hammer down on the Apex. I hear you on the having too much fun. It is awesome to make tracks through that neck of the woods.

Yeah last year we met some guys at Miquelan from Waswanipi, they told us of talk of improving the trail into Waswanipi and of a hotel? I been there and who knows what will go on. I sure hope someone keeps Miquelan open.

Hopefully Miquelon stays open. I stopped there in 2008 and then there are no fuel worries to Chapais. At that time there was a large sign that said gas on it. In 2009 I went right by it. There was no sign. I stopped at the turn off to Waswanipi. Having fuel enough to make it to Chapis was questionable so we went into town for fuel. As I remember it is about 20 Km into the village and the trail is not marked. We got out to the main rd. (113) and flagged down a car. The guy told us there was no gas in Waswanipi, and the station was closed down. Luckily we went in to see for ourselves. The guy was wrong, there was a new station/convenience store at the top of the hill. It was a bit of a pain to get there, but I don't think we would have made Chapis without multiple sleds running out of gas. If you knew from the time you left Quevillion that the next gas was Chapis, I suppose if you took it easier you could probably make it. I have it at about 145 miles between Quevillion and Chapais. Has anyone made the run from Chapis to Quevillion without getting gas in between? We have 3 GSX SE 1200's, 2 600 etecs, and a Renegade 800R Powertec in our group. I have no doubt taking it easier the etecs would make it, I'm not sure about the 1200's or the 800.

If theres fresh snow that 800r will be out of fuel half way there! My buddies gade 800r was a pig on fuel lucky if he got 100 miles on hard pack, although he's hard on the flipper. My Mach has gone 144, the 600sdi ran out at 142, an apex at 130.

Hello all. Your input has been awesome in helping plan our trip. I was mapping some stuff out tonight and it looks like we might be able to squeeze in some extra miles. Never been to Saint Jean before. Will you provide me with some insights? Are there good places to hang out here or should we try to press on and head over toward Mt. Valin. We are a younger group and planning on doing the trip across the top from west to east. By the time we get to this area we are going to be looking for some night life. Open to suggestions from the group as to where to stay. We think we should be able to make it to Saint Jean area by Wednesday night and hoping to get back to St Michel Des Saints by Friday night. I could be wrong, but it looks like you can do this trip in one day. What do you guys think? Suggestions?

Here's an abbreviated version of what I have so far....

St. Michel to Clova - Spend Night (Auberge Et Clova - is this ok)

Clova to Chapais - Spend Night (Motel Le Routier - is this ok)

Chapais to Saint Jean - Spend Night - WHERE?

Now what?

Is this doable? Looks like its about 300 mile days, which we are used to, but trails can vary besed on amount of twisties, etc.

Thanks for any additional insight.

With good conditions and few problems this trip is doable in 5 days depending what you do when you get to Lac St. Jean. Just for a guideline though from Relay 22 (this is the intersection of 73 and 83)it is approx 235 miles back to St. Michel DS. So if you were to leave say Roberval in the morning it would be a very big ride to get to SMDS probably about 320 miles. We did a similar trip a couple years ago except we took 93 past Amos up through Villebois to Matagami then down to Lebel sur Quevil

lon then up to Chapais and on to Roberval and then 83 west to 369 to 33 to SMDS. Total miles 1512 6 days, only had one problem when my wife put a stud through the front heat exchanger coming into Chapais. Good luck and I don't remember where but I have heard there is one town with nightlife on the east side of LSJ :drinks:

Chris......I don't have the actual mileage Clova-Senneterre in my log book since the 83 has been rerouted last year or 2 years ago west of Lac Faillon thru Lake Matchi-Manitou.I was looking at the regional map of Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Senneterre-Clova is approx 170-175 miles.

My log book says Senneterre-Chapais is 205 miles. You are in for a long run .Two places you can stay at between clova and senneterre is Balbuzard Sauvage and Pourvoirie lac Faillon.Still don't know about gas availability in Miquelon.

According to the local map it says no gas in miquelon but I could be wrong. http://www.tourismebaiejames.com/~tourism4/en/what-to-do-and-see/snowmobiles

Most people stay in Chabougamau instead of Chapais, at least thats what I saw when I was there.

That is true as many people want to say they have stayed in Chibougamau. I have stayed at the Nordic twice and once at a more fancy one of which the name escapes me right now. The latter one we were summoned to the front desk a half hour after arriving by the police asking us what time we were leaving in the morning because they wanted to escort us to the trail. The motel was a block down the street from the Yamaha dealer and back in the 2 stroke days we were always on the lookout for a dealer to get some injector oil (don't miss that) we went to the dealer and back on the road (hey there was snow on it) and they didn't like it. Imagine a town that was frontiered in something like 1957 and further from Montreal by car than I am here in my house in PA and they were worried about a few sleds on the road. Heck we figured up there thats how they get around. Anyway we told them 7:30 they said wait for an escort so the next morning standing around in our suits and helmets at 7:35 we said heck to this, they never called so I guess we did alright. But I did stay in Chapais once I think they have 2 motels the one we were at was nice nothing fancy, but the nice thing is if you don't have any need to go to Chibougamau proper it saves you like 15 or 20 miles. :drinks:

Hotel Chibougamu in Town. SAQ in mall across st. There or Motel Nordic. Nordic has nightlife right across the street.

You can hang your hat on that. I always stay at the nordic when coming from the saw mill.
