Wednesday 3/1
213 miles
I make a run to Tim’s and we have breakfast at the hotel. It’s clear sky’s this morning.
We get loaded up and head out to get gas at MultiGaz. It starts to flurry on the way. I can remember when this gas station was closed. The gentleman that now owns it said he bought it 11 years ago. I’m getting old.
We are off towards the orange local to 597. I spot the team Ice sticker on the bridge. This orange trail feels nicer than yesterday if that’s possible.

Great pics Jim & Gemma!
Thanks for sharing. Glad you both got back to Quebec after your hiatus.
Have a great trip!
Hi Tom
Its great to be back on the trail. I’m feeling a bit rusty but we’re getting back into the swing of backpacking.
We are having a good time.
Thanks.

It’s great to be back in La Belle Provence. We didn’t know we would have a two year lapse when driving home March 2020.
We are in Matane after a 785 mile drive. It started snowing around Rimouski. When we reached Matane the snow stopped. It’s 7 degrees F.
We will post up conditions as we travel.

GT Rider, what ever happened to that sled and how did it treat you ?
That was a great sled for about 10,000 miles. Then it ate a piston. It didn't owe me anything.
I had the engine worked on in the Saguenay. It didn't hold up well and I moved on.

Google Translate:
Snowmobilers who want to have fun this winter on the Monts-Valin, in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, will now have to register and pay to access it, as well as to travel on the territory of the ZEC Martin-Valin. This pilot project stems from the decision in assembly, a few days earlier, to open the ZEC year-round. The off-trail snowmobile activity, for example, will cost $10 per day per snowmobile and additional patrollers will be deployed on the territory. “There is a lack of coordination to fully understand what is coming this winter,” said the general manager of the Federation of Snowmobile Clubs of Quebec, Stéphane Desroches. We were not consulted directly.” The unveiling of the project provoked many reactions among members of the ZEC. Currently, the only information available about the project is on the ZEC Martin-Valin Facebook page. A video of the assembly was published there, but the management of the organization is slow to unveil the project publicly. Its director, who was to call back the TVA Nouvelles team on Monday, did not do so.
Despite certain concerns, the Fédération des Clubs de motoneigistes du Québec, which is working on a project aimed at better regulating off-trail snowmobiling in Québec, sees the initiative in a positive light. "It's good and I congratulate the ZEC since it could encourage others to further develop their territory in winter, but I still wonder how they are going to check all the snowmobilers on such a large territory", he indicated.

Hi Alain,
You are off to a very nice start this season. Thanks for taking us along.
Our 2021 and 2022 trail pass did not get installed on the machine. I have 2023 on now.
Your beautiful pictures have me salivating to get up there. The new camera is taking some great shots.
Happy Trails !

As we travel south on 597 it starts snowing heavier. Soon my dashboard and gps is covered. There’s a good amount of powder on the trail. By the time we reached trail 5 it was back to light flurries.
