Background

We travel in a group of four experienced riders and this will be our group of 4's 2nd trip to Quebec. Last year on the free weekend we did 4 days, Kirkland Lake to Amos, then Amos to Matagami, then Matigami to la Sarre, then La Sarre back to KL.

We don't mind a full day on trail but would like to be off before 6, so 300 - 375K / day seems to be comfortable.

This year we will trailer on the 10th to a place to spend the night from and leave our trailers, from then we have 5 days on snow, and day 7 we trailer home.

I have a bit of a plan BUT it might be too ambitious, and considering my wife is one of the 4 we like a little nicer places in the evening Restaurant/ Bar/ & hopefully a hot tub. And some of the places I've looked into are a little less attractive????

Anyway we thought about driving to and staging from Sennettere. (Day 1) Sennettere to Parent, (Day 2) Then Parent to Chambord, (Day 3) Then a days ride around the NE side of Lac St Jean checking out a couple of the look outs??? Then back to Sainte Felcien area north of Roberval for the night, (Day 4) then up to Chibougaumu, (Day 5) Then Back to Sennettere

For a number of reasons, economics being primary this may be the most substantial trip for us to enjoy quebec trails for a few years, so I want to ensure that we get the most out of it. 2 600 etecs 2 1200's We enjoy varried terrain including the quick ones, but well groomed obviously is the most important caracheristic, as well as non high traffic areas, lunch and gas spots important too... lol

So again I appreciate any and all suggestions if you could saddle bag for 5 days in Quebec Feb 11 - Feb 15th what would you do????

Thanks

Sean

JMO, but if this is your first touring trip and your wife's also, I would do the Gaspe loop. The towns are not as spred out in case you want to quit early and there are plenty of gas stops. You can start from the Universal in RDL. Now, right now, I am not sure of the conditions. That area is usually better later into the season. Groomer would know that answer. Also more scenic. Only thing is you might want to think about making reservations. I know that at times, it can be difficult to find a nice place.

Not a terrible plan there.

Greasmonkey is right on with Gaspe but that is a long ride by truck to start that and with not 7 days to ride there kind of not worth that for this run.

Day 1 to stay In Parent is nothing Fancy to put it kindly. Not sure wife will like it there.(also regard the posts on Wemontachi and gas on 83 heading toward Relais 22)

Day 2 there is the nice place in Chambord (chalets and spa Lac St Jean 877-342-7933)

Day 3 st felicien Hotel Du Jardin (indoor pool and hot tub) 1-800-463-4927 or Roberval Chateau Roberval (pool/hot tub) 1-800-661-7611

Day 4 Chibougamau probably motel Nordic no hot tub but nice enough. 1-888-748-6673

You got a pretty long run from Parent to Chambord that day.

You also could drop in at Val d'Or and put together a nice run just in Abitibi. Start at Forrestal them go to Ville Marie. Le Bannik is real nice then up to Royun Noranda then back across to Lac Fallon near seneterre then say back around from there to return to Val d'Or.

If you are set on getting to Lac St. Jean maybe Consider driving to Chibougamau instead of Seneterre. Couple hours in truck gives you much better reach around the Lac and you just go down 93 to get to Lac the circle it and head back up 93 to return to truck.

Hope it helps.

Any questions just ask.

Another place to stay in Chibougamau outside of The Harricana, Nordic or Hotel Chibougamau, tell them I sent you, I was there first snowmobile customer.

Jean is a retired SQ officer

For Parent to Chamborg run like Iceman said, there is a gas issue in Whemontachi. If there is snow on the road i would suggest to take the road out of Parent to Barrage Gouin they have gas and is 85klms then road down to Relais 22 another 85klms gas there too. Parent to Relais 22 is a 135miles/220klms stretch by trail.

Good luck

Thanks for all the info, still looking to firm something up but perhaps I should have clarified a couple of details. First in terms of riding with the wife, there is no problem she can ride/ outride a lot of male riders (bonus for me as we get to do trips together) but I would like a clean spot for the evenings with as many amenities as possible resturaunt on site for sure. We are trailering from the Muskoka area on the hwy 11 corridor about 1:45 hr south of North Bay, but could take 401 south east and work our way north. We have dedicated a day each way for driving but hope not to exceed 12hrs in trucks.

Regarding Abitibi area, we enjoyed our time in the Northern part last year, affraid the southern sections may be busier than we would like and basically just looking for something new. We are planning on being on trail the Tuesday after the free weekend so hoping the trails will be cleaned up and will have survived.

Trailblazer, I was looking at that possiblity (road run) to shorten up trip a bit before you guys said that there is a gas issue in Whemontachi (which I assume means no gas) whats the likelyhood of being able to run the roads in that area, and forgive me but I cant find Barrage Gouin on the Lanaudiere/ Maucie map I will check online but is there another map I need?

Thanks again all

Sean

Lindasledgirl! Were are you?! She's the princess of real riding while still enjoying the finer things in life.

In the meantime...

I just did a take-it-easy/season-opener/“Spa Tour” around Lanaudière & Mauricie, which by definition for us is “not up too early, not in too late, not putting on too many miles, with high likelihood of pools/hot-tubs/masseuses, but there’re plenty of local trail options to ride longer and the trails are MINT!

I'm with MCStar on Parent. Never stayed at Ombreduvent cabins but I have heard others rave about them, and the owner. Not sure if they have a restaurant though. I have stayed at a couple of places in town in Parent over the years and they left much to be desired. The last place I stayed was the 4 saisons, probably 4-5 years ago and it was an honest to goodness fire trap (really, you needed the room key to operate the dead bolt from inside the room). We usually bypass parent and stay in Clova if we can.

In Parent I am Pretty sure you need to cook for yourself at the Chalet or go to the Reataurant in Town. No resto at Chalet Ombreduvent.

Parent is a Gas n Go. For us. Never say never but if i can help it I am moving on.

I'm afraid Sean Barrage Gouin is not on the map, however you can access their trail just east of Parent on the 83, when and if you are there, when exiting Barrage Gouin by their road it will lead you to the main road that goes from Parent to La Tuque, at that intersection right is Parent left is La Tuque, go left then next intersection is for Obedjiwan indian reserve turn right then ride 80 or so klms to Relais 22 and pick up the trail from there. Relais 22 is your stop between Whemontaci and LSJ.

Hope this helps

Good luck

Haha! Playhard.....you know it!

But not always do I require the 'finer things'...sometimes I like the quiet roughing it kind of trip! Like going to Groomers Camp!

As for the saddlebag tour...I like this trip you have here Playhard!

As for favourites...if you are going to head to the west (Val D'Or) come down a bit to Ville Marie and hit La Bannick!

The Gaspe trip sounds really good too...that is tough to beat. Lots of good scenery and great spots to stay.

Charlevoix I flew through last year on the way back from the Gathering and would love to go there again.

Cheers!

Linda

Hi Sean,

Welcome to QuebecRider.

We were in Wemotaci last week. There is gas available when we went thru. Coming from the west (Parent) trail 83 crosses a bridge and there is a restaurant and the closed gas station on your left. The trail turns left down the street between the two buildings. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant and in the lot there is a gas pump attached to above ground tanks. This is where we got gas. I don't know what the hours are but we were there mid afternoon.

Trail 83 doesn't get a lot of traffic and tends to stay in good shape after it has been groomed. When we went thru it was very good.

Lac St Jean and Mt Valin you're going to see more traffic. Trails are usually pretty good. Don't be afraid to take the regional and local trails.

Trail 93 up to Chibougamau and back to Senneterre is similar to 83. There isn't much traffic and tends to stay in good shape.

Happy riding.

Jack & Sandi
