Miles long reacted to dmccrea@twcny.rr.com in To off trail riders who can’t stay on the trail
Respectfully your talking about two different issues. Staying off lands your not supposed to be on and also tearing up the trails. If you think your ever going to tell all the locals north in Quebec what track lug or length he can use to get around up there it won’t go. It’s not paddle tracks tearing up the trails and I see more shorter tracks going off trail as long tracks just look for the holes where they were stuck. It’s like guns. It’s not the gun causing the problem it’s the guy holding it!!!! I don’t feel you can blame a class of sleds just the drivers!!

Never could figure out why it's called slick-rock? (Maybe designed to scare off them that don't know? Shhh.)
Seems like after 10yrs it's time for new memories!

Incredible place, the landscape is very moon like with unbelievable traction! It's probably been 10 years since my last trip out there, brings back a lot of memories.

Miles long reacted to revct1 in Big Speeding Ticket
I'm glad the court sided with the land owners. I agree that the police should not come onto private land and issue tickets. What sort of message is that action sending to the youngsters who are enjoying the party while they are being supervised by adults. The children will be looking over their shoulder to see if the police are watching them when instead the children should look upon the police as their friends and protectors.
I don't want to start a legal post here but if the law exempts private property from the Highway Safety Code, does that mean that tickets can only be issued where the trail actually runs on a road and tickets cannot be issued when the trail is on private property such as a farmer's field? Just a thought.
Something the courts should address to clarify what we can do and cannot do.
Thanks Don.

Miles long reacted to Cnc in 2018 Sleds
I realize this seems like a new trend for the east and yes the potential problems are real of trails deteriorating faster and people circulating without permission on private land or getting off the trail to play in a meadow even when it is posted fragile passage, but on another level I find some humour. In the late 60's all snowmobiles were off trail cause there were no real trails and they actually could go most places. We went almost anywhere we wanted and because almost everyone had a sled, driving through your neighbours property was no big deal cause they drove through yours. I guess the beginning of the non off trail machine started in the early 70's with the free airs. Mine would pretty much get stuck on anything but a packed trail or plowed road. Grin.

Yes, I have been thinking about that for a couple of years, we all know going off trail is a big problem when in Quebec and all the makers should know it too, especially BRP being natives. All I can think is out West this must be a HUGE money maker. So much of the network in the east requires great relationships with private land owners, and going off trail and running over a bunch of 3 year old trees that eventually go to market could really kill a lot of people. Just think if the logging company shut of access to Repo and Cabanon, Repo, Katawana, Casey and Parent lost all that business and their help lost their jobs because of a trail closure from disrespectful riders. When the park was shut down St Donat lost half of it's business because the trail to St Zenon and everywhere else that you could go from there basically disappeared. Now the merchants there are hoping to persuade the province to reopen the park. Over the years snowmobile manufactures have overcome every obstacle the naysayers have thrown our way. sleds are now quiet safe, and meet noise and pollution standards, and we have a much better product to enjoy our sport with, all because of new technology that many thought could not be done. so all that is left is for environmentalists to take away our trails or brake up the network LETS BE SMART AND RESPONSIBLE AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS AS WELL!!

Thank you for taking us along for the ride it was a great read!
I may have missed this ,sorry about that ,what happen to the two guys from Montreal that you up picked up along the way?
The other is sled reliability, any make ,any model doesn't matter and technology.I know this trip is a real hard one to make , tough conditions , deep snow ,conditions harder then anything most any of us ever ride. You guys are well prepared for most anything and the sleds are prepared to the nines. I understand anything can break at anytime new or old but looking at this I'm not sure whether or not I trust many sleds can make it through without any issues. The point is we spend a lot of money on these things , they are suppose to be built well are you a little surprised you had so many issues ? That's what would stop me from something like this is, do I trust my sled!
