Great news! The Lucien Chouinard bridge on trail #369 to l'Étape will be rebuilt in November!
Yesterday, during the Fcmq regional meeting, we received the best news of all: the bridge at the outlet of Lac Jacques Cartier (Lucien Chouinard Bridge) on trail #369, which was closed this summer because it had been declared unsafe due to erosion under one of its footings, will finally be rebuilt in November and will be operational this winter.
This was our hottest issue to date.
We had already received half of the subsidies this year, but the other half would only come in 2024, which meant the trail was closed at the Beaver Relais.
Imagine the situation.
No bridge meant no junction with the 23 to Saint-Raymond and the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, no visits to the stage for petrol, food or even warmth. It would have been a major problem!
This bridge is an essential element of trail #369 as well as for the Club.
We're really relieved about this turn of events and would like to thank the Fcmq, our administrators who worked so hard and all those who made this project possible for the winter of 23/24 rather than 24/25.
Thank you to all those who support us by taking out your access rights with us.
The more members we have, the better the Surfacage will be, and the more members we have, the more money we'll have to build bridges, culverts and any other improvements we need to offer you the most beautiful trails in the greater Quebec City area 😉

Anyone want to guess what ol man winter has in store for us? 50/50 chance you'll be right!

We had the same thing happen in Northern Ontario years ago. It was about 50 miles from a town in either direction so we fought with it for 2 hours before it rolled out. One of those sled happenings you never forget.

In 2006 we rode 347 on our way up to Roberval.  I would say about 10 miles before Odanak there was an open stream crossing.  There was a guy on a Yamaha sitting on the other side. He stopped us and told us not to cross.  His sled picked up the perfect size rock to wedge between the track and the forward bulkhead of his tunnel. We crossed on the ice of a little pond and stopped to help him out.  There were eight of us plus him.  We worked at it for about an hour but could not get that damn rock out of there.  Tried to remove the axle but did not have the right tools to do it.  He had sent the two guys he was riding with to La Tuque to get a hammer and a bar and said they should be back anytime.  One of our guys had a couple of beers in his saddlebag leftover from the night before.  We gave him one, and told him if we didn’t see his buddies by the time we got to La Tuque we would come back and get him.  About three miles later we met his buddies on their way back for the rescue.  Long story, but I have think about that trail every time we pass through. Too bad we lose those trails.  

Quebec Tourism is also an option.  Go online, pick the region, most have a section to order maps.

Wanted one more trip on the batmobile before breaking out the snowmobile.  Mattawin to Kanawata via the northern roads on Saturday and return to the truck via the southern roads Sunday.  It was a relatively short trip so we didn’t have to start so early in the morning, allowing the sun to warm things up a little for us.  Saturday afternoon the rain hit just as we pulled into Kanawata, so we brought the luggage in our rooms.  About 20 minutes later the sun came back out, so we headed Nord to Casey and checked out the new stripping on the runway.  Back down to Kanawata for supper.  200 miles for the day.  We watched the Habs beat Bedard and the Hawks on the new couches.  There has been significant investment made in the last 2 years at Kanawata, you might not recognize it now. Sunday morning  Mario fed us all the big breakfast plate before hitting the trail back to the truck.  The drizzle kept the dust down most of the day. Stopped at the Mattawin damn for the first time in years and had a snack.  150 miles for the day.  Here are some pics.
PS the road between Repos and the Manawan cut off is the current title holder for bumpiest gravel road in Quebec right now. 
 

Over the years I have seen RDL post good trails by X-Mas a couple times.  Watch for grooming reports and the club reports of the area that report trails by red, yellow and green.
The new bar looks nice, loved the coziness of the old bar for sure..  Looking at the picture, the new bar almost looks like its at the room where the buffet used to be, but not sure.
Hopefully Mark, you will be retired next year and will be at RDL more often.

I never complain about the cost of Quebec permit. The significant grooming capacity and constant investment in infrastructure like this projects makes us all fortunate to have these trails.

Yikes, did I say March? I meant Feb. Rarely much snow on the ground end of March in the Gaspie! 😉

Hey, don’t be giving that advice. February is awesome. 
 
March will be the new February tabernac. 

We rode motorcycles through that area the first week of September and saw no fire damage anywhere. We were on our way back from a James Bay-Trans Tiaga trip. We rode the dirt roads from Senneterre to La Tuque passing through Parent, Clova and Casey. We even camped at the old radar site in Parent with no sign of any recent fires so I believe all is good to go in that area.

Hi Steve.  Saturday was light on the trail side of things because I wanted to make sure to stay out of the hunters territory, so we stayed on the main roads through the ZECs, no side trail.  I like to have breakfast at 6 and be in the trail moving by 7, the early start gives you a chance. Once we were north of the substation near fer a cheval we dipped back into the woods to Parent. I stayed on the Clova express to close the afternoon out.  Let me know when you want to Doo it and I will be your guide for the weekend.  Mid June sounds perfect to me.
