When saddlebagging, brining gas is a necessity in my opinion.

Regardless of how much you plan your gas stops you may need it.
i.e. Heavy fresh snow kills mpg,  towing a breakdown (minimal mpg),  wrong turn, reroute cuz of forestry etc
    expect the unexpected

That’s a real shame to hear , I remember way back when he started the whole forum mostly for helping us owners of the Firecat F7 ! He was a great asset to snowmobilers and will be missed. RIP

April 7, 2016 last truck in the corral at RDL. I use a 2003 Honda Pilot bought new currently has 143,000 miles and runs like a top. I pull a 2008 Triton 12' clamshell trailer. Now before you fall on the floor laughing I have had other members here chase me from the USA to RDL and were unable to catch me, that was a big Ford diesel. 😉 Actually have been truck shopping but having a hard time writing the check for somewhere North of $50,000 on a depreciating asset.
That new Ford is quite beautiful thought.

As Backcountry has reported and certainly no different than any other year, we are getting preseason riding conditions. With several hundred miles of groomed trails in the area, to streams that are not frozen, to sled breakdowns and great Backcountry woods road running.  Each day gives us a new experiences.
Early rider, 1500 HD, Backcountry and I are having a great time. We have had to scrounge for a reliable internet connection so patchy reporting has been the norm.
8” forecast for tomorrow here, so great powder riding we hope for the end of our trip!

    best regards RR

Hey I resemble that remark. I'm a solid 5'8" in bare feet. Anyway I ALWAYS purchase the tallest windshield available it gets ice covered not me, flick it back the ice pops right off and you keep going.
I have been searching for tall windshields for the 850 and found nothing that is really going to push the air over you and that is the key. Surely soon someone will come up with one.
Here's the short guy with the big windshield. 😂😂❄️❄️🌬🌬

Another tip that I use and bring along with me on every trip is Turtle Wax, give your visor a healthy coat of wax in the morning and you’ll never have to worry about anything sticking to it, be it snow balls from the sled in front of you or the oncoming one to rain and yes freezing rain. A heated visor like Ice said WILL NOT thaw freezing rain, it’s made to remove moisture from your breath.

    45,000 plus miles in quebec.
we typically plan on reservations for the weekends.
During the week we typically wing it....  this comes with time, experience, and knowledge of the accommodations at the destination.
The beauty of quebec is gradually uncovering everything that's out there.  It's rare that your going to find a shit trail...it's nearly impossible to find a shit trail that doesn't have a pot of gold at the end...... Bumpy trail for 20 miles see broken groomer and then hit white carpet for the rest of the trip.
Through out the province you have lakes, mountains, super high ways, roller coaster rides etc....it's got it all.
Carry xtra gas and a tow strap.
Trackmaps in a Garmin GPS will give u all the features it does in your car but via snowmobile trail.....ETA, Lodging, Gas, etc it's really incredible how far things have come from a technological standpoint.
we typically check the live grooming map (exploria) in the AM and modify the route if need be.

i think a great post would be the top 5 worst areas in quebec.

i can only thing of one area we really avoid.....just a cunt hair north of Ottawa
we come up 81 and wanted to save some seat time in the truck.... parked at the first place we found and the trails were just crazy twisty till we hit the rr bed that runs from Low to maniwaki.  Well worth the extra 90 min in the truck to get to the good stuff.  Lesson learned.

st zenon, st Michelle area gets a really bad rap but it's typically only on weekends.
same for Quebec City..... gets tough on the weekends.
as a general rule the more heavily populated areas have the highest probability to get a little beat up on the weekends

Best of Luck and Enjoy the Ride!
    Always an Adventure

Mike most of the suggestions you have received are very good EXCEPT one...drink less vin rouge??? How dare Road Runner even suggest that...lol
But here's one that will really save you money & maybe even your life...https://www.cancer.org/healthy/stay-away-from-tobacco/cigarette-calculator.html
You would probably save enough money to be able to buy two sleds per season.

I put 21,000 miles on my 2010 Renegade 1200 and have virtually no issues.  Check and clean your clutches and replace the jackshaft bearing.

Scary to think anyone would even joke about you drinking less rouge!

    Update:
    NOS Bottle Certified and Filled!
Turns out, in true RR tradition, the Crank has oversized piston pin bearings, So I measured and ordered them, I hope the crank works after all this BS!!!
M-10 is torn out, Re-Railed, Reassembled, Airline run to the Front Rear Shock, Almost put back into the Chassis.
Pistons are marked up for the mini blowholes for the exhaust bridge.
Block is just about ready to go together.
** Removed the Receiver Pin Lock from Truck , Lock was too corroded to open, it took 10 Seconds with a Battery SawZall and used blade from Harbor Freight.

    Update:
There are several versions of the Skidoo 670, we have the oldest modern version of the crank. Unfortunately I have had a 2nd gen replacement from Skidoo in a box, I've had it for a while and did not know that there were a so many versions. I sent it off to the Crank Shop to have them swap a few things around, of course.....
I was able to install the fuel lines and new high volume pump:
    The
The Rotary Valve shaft and RV Gear from Sea-Doo (Beefier):

I'm opening up the chassis to allow even longer travel of the front suspension, 12+ inches of Travel.

A little clean up and some paint and it is ready to go!
On to mounting the NOS Bottle and a new custom tail light!

10 ride reports of 11 sledding days containing more than 380pics  tooks mainly in Lanaudiere, Mauricie and Haute-Mauricie.
From 18 December 2016 to 27march 2017. It can be a nice teaser for this next one season that may start soon, mother nature seems to cooperate up to date!
