From the looks of the pics in Valin and Moose valley NB. Looks like the base held in both places. Some cold weather, a storm for lubrications and at least we would be back to “preseason conditions”. It would seem that areas with woods road bases in the traditional high snow areas would survive. Interconnect ability may be an issue if you need to go thru areas with fields, low lands Ect to get to another destination. So working out of one area may be the best option. Stay tuned, I wouldn’t rule out New Years weekend riding somewhere.

I watched that video too Steven to me that disclaimer was probably added by the legal department
I plan on wearing a balaclava because I don’t want to risk frostbite
Sm and Ray, I agree, I did the same thing, riding without a balaclava, feels weird to me lol. Plus it helps on the ears when putting the helmet on 😁
Merry Christmas all

Ps. The route you have drawn is an unmarked river crossing on the Portneuf River . It is fine, but not groomed at the river crossing and a single track trail on the west side of the river back up to the orange trail. If you don’t want to do that, just run 3 west from Forestvillle and pick up the orange trail at Portneuf sur Meir.

I've taken that trail a few times always groomed. May take a little longer after a big dumping of snow. We never book a room more then a day in advance, Call the day before and make sure.
They don't have a lot of rooms and there tiny
I agree with Jack, sometimes the secondary trails are better than the primary, usually less traffic, that run is a gorgeous ride that runs parallel to-the Portneuf River for miles. Nice canyon run with a set of waterfalls to view. The grooming isn’t as frequent but an awesome ride. Km 31 should be fine mid week, but it’s always good to call the day before. Ask for Nicolas, he is bilingual 😉

Nope my BV2’s and my modular are both large so who knows maybe they’re just varying between batches so to speak or my previous concern is true.....
Pipe, This certainly speaks to the issue that you raised, that if someone is able to locate one, you should try one on, first, if possible to make sure the size and fit is what you want for a feel.
I know for me, I expected to wear a balaclava , despite the recommendation that we didn’t need too, so I tried a XL with a balaclava on. Felt to tight for me, so I tried the 2 XL on and liked the feel better.
I am sure it’s a personal feel for each of us, so if your lucky enough to find one, try it on first if you can😁.
i have heard that there are no more available this season from BRP, so you need to search for some laying around for sale if you want one this year.

Those conditions look awesome snowmaster, we are off to a great start this season!

For those itching for a good ride this coming weekend and would like access to Mt Valin but miss the crowds, you could consider, the Danube, At Forestville or Hotel Pelchat at Escoumin. Tons of snow east of Mt Valin and very few sleds. All trails were open except the lower end of the 93 to Sacre Cour. Avoid this at all costs until groomed😁
The “School bus” trail to Valin from Escoumin is groomed and awesome!
The Escoumin club house is open and has fuel
note, we did not go to hotel Pelchat, so call them to verify that the lower trail thru the village is open to the hotel
The upper local trail to Forestville is awesome.
The fcmq grooming map should change daily so stay tuned.

Roadrunner are you sure on the Oxygen helmet running small statement? I found the opposite to be the case, normally I wear a large helmet but had to buy a medium Oxygen helmet. Only wanting to clarify in case someone on here orders one. Could be I lost more brains too 🙄
Pipeman, Thank you for questioning, It May be the brand your were wearing before? I went from an XL BV2 to a 2XL Oxy? If your wearing a different helmet brand prior, that may be the discrepancy? I had worn the BV2 since it came out, had 3 of them.
And I know I don’t need a bigger one as , for sure, I am not getting any smarter 😂 LOL

Howard, never realized you were Roadrunner on here..... Hopefully get a ride in this year with Carrier and crew. Try to keep the rubber side down.
SPump, Made it back to Moosehead Lake and oh what a sunrise this AM
I really enjoy the Carrier group, hope I get to see them this year. I think he is headed north this week with Early rider for a ride.
Fortunately the Flu only hit a few of the boys, it was violent and not fun to be one of those afflicted. I did miss that flu .....I think ......fortunately,🤞
FloridaSnowman, on the Balaclava, I agree with you 100%. I will most always where one under the Oxygen Helmet. It gives added neck protection in sub zero temps, helps when sliding the helmet over the ears, and I feel unnatural without it LOL. Probably everyone knows this but You might want to go a size bigger with the Oxy helmet, they seem to run small.
Linda, on the sled comparisons, I did make a mileage trip error earlier, 603 and I got 600 miles on the turbos, an 1350 on the BC’s, a little less than originally thought. Still a nice week in total. And as implied early these sleds each have their own sweet spot. The turbo owns the trail spot over the BC handsdown. It hugs the trail, in all trail conditions, has smooth accelerations, great handling and the stand by R motion is a winner that we all have ridden!
We still find ourselves struggling with the BC when on the perfect groomed trail. The narrower front end and gear we carry amplifies that handling issue. But put the BC on a worn groomed trail and or single track trail or powder and it takes over with nimble light weight riding and great power, and great handling for the conditions.
We did take the turbo out on some single track riding and it does still give you the impression of the added weight up front. Not bad, but a heavier feel over the BC.
if I spent 70% or more on trail it would be the Turbo.... no questions for me.
the same percentage or more adventure riding, BC is the winner
if you do 50/50, you just gotta have both!😁
Our next ride is after New Years
Merry Christmas to a all

Now that looks like a perfect one Linda!
The temps are dropping here this morning, I think it’s is Balaclava weather!
we had our biggest day yesterday for riding, a morning loop to the ski mountain, up the Bras Louis and down the Lake Laflame rd. Than an afternoon ride to Escoumin. A fun 300 miles of perfect groomed trails and single track riding.
Th flu has made its rounds this week, so any are heading south today. Including yours truly. 1500 miles on the Back Country and 600 on the Turbo gave us a real good feel for these new sleds.
As we reported early, these sleds are BRP homeruns. Anyone who has purchased one will be very pleased when they saddle up and hit the trails?
Pics that I am sure you all have seen when running 93 in Valin😁

Hi RR!
I will have fun for sure, LIse and Vincent(Gas station and Passion) are so good to me. We always have a lot of fun!
What you are describing on the shield looks and sounds exactly like what happened to my new BV2S last season, so now I have two new helmets going to on this trip. Biggest question for me is the balaclava. I know they say I don’t need one, but the back of it seems high? Was it cold back there?
Thanks,
LIndasledgirl
Linda, I use a Yamaha balaclava, a nice fleece bottom and nylon top. The helmet you get virtually no moving air inside, very comfortable to use! Have worn this from day one and been very comfortable.

Great trip report! I am really happy to hear the good news on the 900 Turbo...and the Oxygen Helmet! Glad everyone is ok...wet isn’t too bad.
We are booked for December 28th at Passion for a week and I am packed and ready to go...can’t wait.
Merry Christmas to all!
Lindasledgirl
Linda, All the trails should open by than, you will have an awesome time as you usually do😁
Regarding the Oxygen helmet, of the four we had, unfortunately, my shield seal failed after six days of use. Moisture had gotten In between the two layers. I have ordered a new shield, hope it is just a fluke issue😁
Love the helmet otherwise😁
Have a great Merry Christmas and awesome trip!

Great report as usual!👏
You guys sure know how to have an adventure....
You also make most of us on here feel like a bunch of minor leaguers ready to be taken out to pasture
BJ
BJ, this is such a great great activity for all of us on this site, and really enjoyable for all. Whether you ride 1,000 miles a year or 10,000..Most of us in our group , feel very fortunate to have the Time and resources available to do this a lot.
Sometimes that’s the only difference😁.

The recovery of sleds at the bottom of that embankment and in water does not look like it was an easy job.
And all those new sleds getting scratched by the bushes.
I am enjoying the reports! Great pictures.
mike
Mike, Early Rider did the recovery, he is just amazing to watch and be with when he is on a mission! In three hours he and the 4 guys that stayed behind, had both sleds out of the water, back to km 31, and running be mid, afternoon.

I can see one sled blowing a corner but the second....hmmm Thinking definitely following too close and hey to each their own, riding in the snow dust like that you got to have lots of faith in that helmet you are following. Probably the first sled to blow that corner was in the snow dust too. No?
I know you and your team have tons of years of experience, but even you must admit this should not have to happen. Especially on a blue sky day.
Luckily no one was seriously injured.
Anyway enjoying following along on your adventures as usual. Wishing you and your team a great season.
Ice, you are right, unfortunately the first guy that crashed, it was his first day In the north country with us ever, his first ride of the season, and there were other issues. It’s kind of one of those things where you had to be there😉.
The second Guy, same issue, both experienced riders that broke the 100 mile rule.
We have a rule, after 40 plus years of riding, that those riders running the first 100 miles, need to be take extra caution getting used to their sleds and gear that they have just purchased.
This is an individual rule, with each owner having to take those responsibilities required, themselves! so take it easy boys on those first 100 miles.
Unfortunately that rule did not get followed yesterday.
Fortunately, this group is very flexible and capable for most situations
As many members in this group regularly crank out in excess of 5,000 miles a year and several of us in excess of 10,000 miles a year.
When you run the territory we do, if you don’t come out with scratches in your (brand new) sleds and terrain induced damage, you aren’t riding😉
i enjoy sharing these adventure on Quebec Rider, and will continue, but many of these rides are not groomed trail riding.
We had a great 200 mile day today up towards the Pipmuacan reservoir, , one rider got the flu and was sick at the turn, a long afternoon for him! 100 miles out in the bush!
Looking forward to the new season of riding, and reading everyone’s reports

RoadRunner I see that you guys stack you BRP fuel Tank . BRP mention not to stack fuel tank them , do you know why ? Is it about safety for weight on the tunnel ?
Thank you
stef
Stef , as Dooright implied, the issue is concern with bending the tunnels from the weight. Many of us by the longest HDbumper available. In my case, I ordered a HD bumper for a 172 summit. It extends ahead of the rear hangers, than as the boys mentioned, you say a prayer and dump one can up asap🙏🏻😉

Would you say hi to him for me.
TB, we had a great evening with Yves,
Today was another eventful day, we had several new riders and our intentions were to all ride to Forestville for lunch. Well as they say, so much for best laid plans.
We left this am with 13, but ended up in Forestville with 8
A blown corner with two of the brand new sleds and the riders ended up wet and the end of their ride for this .day.
Some minor physical injuries and some wet sleds. After that the sled recovery crew cleaned up the mess , as 8 continued on.
All is well that ends well. Both sleds are running again and it was the nicest day of riding we have had all week weather wise.
a great lunch at the econolodge in Forestville and some absolutely beautiful riding today.
North to the Pipmuacan tomorrow
Happy trails
