Saturday December 27
Beautiful day outside in the Basse Cote Nord. The wife and I are on vacation, so hours are nonexistent well there is one exception what time the restaurant is closing that matters the most. Don’t matter what time they open for breakfast, It will surely be open when we get over there.
We had our breakfast and just a heads up (new to us) they have 10% off breakfast coupons for each guest in the room. Restaurant across the street.
Les Escoumins is a home run. Nice hotel.. love the parking right outside room. Gas/small depanneur right next door and restaurant across the street. One stop shopping.
We were out on the sleds 10am, still 8 sleds here as Caro took point and we roll out the back, love letting her lead and read the trail. We went to join TQ3. Really sweet conditions. Flat fast trails. Little to no traffic. All day.
We take TQ3 east its shown closed but that’s a negative it’s very open. Well groomed, technically missing some signs and sticks (probably why marked closed)
Not far, maybe 30km we are in the Domaine du Shamrock…..
I hear her gasp and say Oh Wow on the radio. I finish the left turn and there she is with the moose. It was a big female and it did not stay long it jumped off right side but they were face to face. Moose was on right side of trail as she rounded the left hand up hill a bit. Surprised them both. Saw some tracks but no moose droppings and further down trail more tracks after.
First moose for Caro outside of the Gaspe. She said she was just thinking about if she might see a moose here, and hello, someone ordered a moose?
You got it.
We cruised up east on TQ3 beautiful conditions with bright blue sky. Seen very few sleds and all going west. No one behind us and we caught no one all day. Near Longue Rive we decided to stop and try to practice some shooting with the drone.
We had fun and are enjoying the practice. Good thing i can ride cause i need serious practice with my flying.
Caro is awesome at editing and chopping them videos up. Now we just need to shoot more content. And mix it in.
After maybe an hour there we headed on east and there is a well used shortcut to bypass Portneuf sur mer. So I talked Mrs Ice through the shortcut as you need to look at where you are going on the GPS to make the cut through. Coming back west is much easier to find as on the other side at TQ3 there is a small hunting blind or shack on the right just before the right turn to head back west. Not magic just gotta have sense of direction.
We continued on and trail is beautiful all the way to Forrestville. We saw two sleds sitting by the local into Forrestville. We decided to head east some more. So on we went about 15km past then turned back. Gas at Ultramar and Mc Donald’s. Break for a warm up. Left Forrestville at 2:10pm. Trail just as great going back but did have sun in the face for a good bit. We made great time even with our pictures going back. Back at Escoumins 4:15.
Nice relaxed day. Nice to look around and take it all in.
Mrs Ice happy. Mission accomplished.
Tomorrow we will ride somewhere,
Until next time…..
