  1. Thanks for the route suggestions.  We ended up at the Delta for 5 nights (3/11-3/15)  and had 4 great rides.  1st day was to the Chapelle and out to a lookout for a spectacular view and back to the Delta.  Hardly anyone on the trails and conditions were quite good.  Lots of pavement at the delta but still not too bad.  2nd ride we went down to Mt Apica for another great view.  Took the green 368 back to the south side of Saguenay and it was PERFECT. What a great ride.   3rd day we went up to Onatchiway and over to the new bridge on 373.  Also checked out the Lac Lamothe cave along the way.  Lots of groomed trails all day.  Getting much thinner from the dam to the delta now..   4th day we went back up to Valin and went up the 251 Bras louis I think,  I was chatting to my son on the communicator how this is the best trail EVER and we came across a plowed section maybe 2 miles long and it was just chunky rocks.  After that is was awesome again.  The last 10 miles back to the Delta was a lot of snirt so we called it a trip.

I took the same picture of that same tilted Bras Louis sign 15+ years ago with that same sled next to it. Time flies.   I will say the Delta has lost a little snowmobiling magic since Saguenay Bill was not there....

  2. We were thinking of heading to the Delta 3/12-3/16 and need some suggestions for day rides about 175mi.   Last couple times I was there I had the luxury of just following Saguenay Bill around so I am not sure where we even went.   An overnight away for the Delta would be good too if it makes sense.  It's been 15+ years since riding there.

I remember we went to some caves, of course Relais la Chapelle, and the "something" express trail...

I have been reading the drama with the Zec permits so I am aware about that.

    Thoughts?

  3. Hi All,

We are doing a 2 day ride from Beauce to RDL and back this weekend.  Any thoughts on TQ55 vs TQ35 Vs TQ5? right now?  Maybe out one way and back another?  Normally I wouldnt even think about it but with the warm weather maybe one way is better?

Any idea if there more snow toward the river or toward Maine right now?

    Any tips appreciated...

  4. We encountered the moose last Thursday 25-30 miles north of La Cache and she would just NOT move off trail.  2 hours later the groomer came by and that was still not enough for her to just move off trail..  She ended up running next to the groomer and passed by all the sleds.    No doubt it we pushed her on sleds she would have charged.

Scary to see one coming at you!!!

  5. Oh, One thing.. His 17 year old sled did just get a new Skidoo crate engine this season. We had 400 break in miles on it before we left...

We use the Lexin FT4 communicators.  They were pretty cheap on ebay $75 each maybe and they work really well.  The range is not huge but with my son as soon as I hear some static I know he has dropped back a bit.  If you can see each other or are 1 turn away it's quite clear.  No issues syncing them in the morning and the "call" just stays open all day.

  6. I posted this in the French section earlier by mistake...

After a ton of normal pre trip work plus, passport renewals, Covid tests, and my son getting his drivers license 3 days before we left for RDL we ended up having a great trip afterall.

Left RDL Last Saturday and returned 7 days later with 1200 miles on the odometer.  Rode the north shore to Perce then up to Murdochville and over to La Cache with stops in Matane, Mt Louis, Cap Chat, Perce.  It was his first ride in QC and he loved it.  I have not been there since 2010 or so.

No breakdowns or mechanical issues added to the success of trip for sure.  The only issue was the VERY pesky moose near La Cache.  I took us 2 hours to get by her.  We were already running late and this just added to a very long day.   We were about to give up and wait it out in one of the warming huts but the groomer came by and she decided to turn and run back the other way.  Fortunately no one was kicked as 6 sleds were stacked up waiting to pass by this time.

I give him a ton of credit for doing so well.  He rode a 17 year old Renegade all day everyday and LOVED it.   If any of you ride with your kids get some communicators, they are invaluable for warning for traffic, hazards, or just chatting about the scenery.

  8. He's a typical skinny 17 year old but he certainly looks like he could drive.  I am not too worried about an accident since that would screw up the trip anyway.  an extra fine would just be icing on the cake 😞   My insurance should cover him regardless.  When I have rarely encountered officials on the trail all they wanted was to verify the trail pass too.    There is still an outside chance he can schedule a drivers test for next week and we will be 100%, provided he passes!!!  Ironically he has way more miles under his belt riding a sled than driving a car.

  9. Hey all,  It's been a 10 years since I have ridden in Quebec due to other obligations and growing family.  Now that my son has become a proficient enough rider we wanted to do a ride around the Gaspe this month.  He has been dying to ride Quebec forever but needed to be 16 years old.    The issue is he is 17 years old without a drivers license...  When I looked last fall I though all he needed was a safety course card which he has from NH. But it looks like he needs a license as well.

I did see you can ride a snowmobile if you have a learners permit but I am not sure that extends to US residents as well.  NH does not give learners permits but he has passed Drivers Ed and all the other requirements but just has not taken the road test yet.

Anyone have any thoughts on the learners permit?  We would love to go if he is legal but I don't want to end up with a fine or worse..
