🏍️⚠️ HAUTE-MAURICIE | SNOWMOBILER LOSES HIS LIFE IN LA TUCQUE AFTER A COLLISION

A snowmobiler in his fifties lost his life on Thursday, January 22, 2026, following a collision on a snowmobile trail in Haute-Mauricie, in the La Tuque area. The incident occurred late in the morning on a section of the Trans-Québec 83 trail.
A COLLISION BETWEEN TWO GROUPS ON THE TRAIL
According to available information, the impact occurred at a specific point on the trail where a first group of snowmobilers had stopped at the edge. A second group traveling on the same route did not see the stopped vehicles, which led to a collision between two snowmobiles.
The man in his fifties was violently thrown from his vehicle at the moment of impact.
EMERGENCY TRANSPORT AND DEATH
When first responders arrived, the victim had injuries that were considered serious. He was quickly transported to a health care center in Wemotaci, where he was pronounced dead shortly after admission.
The second snowmobiler involved in the collision suffered injuries, but they are not life-threatening.
ONGOING INVESTIGATION
A collision investigator was dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. Visibility conditions, trail configuration, and the dynamics between the two groups are among the factors being examined.
Emergency services from the community of Wemotaci also assisted in the response.
SAFETY REMINDER
Authorities remind the public of the importance of exercising extra caution on trails, particularly when stopping at the side of the trail and when traveling in groups, in order to reduce the risk of collisions in areas where visibility may be limited.
