Need Suggestions For 3 Day Trip With Wife

I'm fortunate to be one of the few guys that has a wife that loves to sled. I have been going to Quebec for several years with the guys but never taken her. Planning a mid February trip this year, will spend 3 days riding. Travelling from east of Toronto so Quebec City would be the furthest distance want to Trailer.  She rides her own machine very well.

Looking for the best location for this trip. Can day trip from one location or could also do a loop just don't want to be hundreds of miles away from the truck.

Looking for the balance between accomandations, scenery with excellent trails, Quebec culture, dependable spots for bathroom breaks etc. Been searching old post and see several regular posters here ride with your wife. Jack & Sandi, Towing, Snowfarmer, etc.

Few ideas I have but open for others:

1. Mount Laurier, I know this area best, been here few times with the guys, know the trails, topography lodges etc. We actually went to Rabaska lodge this summer for a planned 5 days ATV trip. Rode for 2 days, second night wife woke up in severe pain, spend the next 4 days in the Mont Laurier hospital, end up having her appendix taken out.

2. Quebec City to Manoir Richelieu,  haven't ridden this area so don't know it. Maybe start at Four Points, ride and stay at Manoir Richelieu. What traill #3 like. We both are more interested in the best trails to ride vs needing 5 star hotels. One advantage this area is I believe the winter carnival is on so if weather isn't perfect to ride there is other options.

3. Chaudiere-Appalaches Area.  Never rode this area. Seen some pictures from here and Snowtrax video of the area. Looks like lots of lodging options. Is the riding as good as the Mont Laurier area. I like the up and down, through the woods into the village type of riding. if I want flat and straight I get on a train.

The riding experience is the priority, trails, scenery etc. Saguenay Lac St Jean to far away, St Zenon area to busy, don't want to spend a night at the Canbannon with 200 guys.

Hoping another couple will be coming with us, but hard to get people to commit.

Many of you guys have spend years in Quebec, what are your suggestions.

Thanks Steve

Four Points to Richelieu is a great option. Outdoor pool at both locations. My wife loves them. Nice ride between the 2. Baie St Paul nearly 1/2 way. Could stop at Mt St Anne ski area too. For non sled activities near Four Points Old Quebec is cool. Montmorency Falls is near 4 Points. And you could shuttle over to the Ice Hotel I assume - no longer virtually on property with 4 Pts.

Seriously though there are many good areas. You mentioned you did not want to go to Le Cabanon but if you you do this area during the week you will have no problems. Are you looking to stay in same hotel every night or saddlebag it? Western Quebec has some of the best riding and probably closest to you. you could leave from Temiscaming and do a nice loop up the Western border toward Lasarre go through Amos, Val D'Or down through Kicistak (spelling) to 63 and back west. If you wanted to stay in one spot you could do Val D'Or. Mont Laurier honestly is nothing compared to this area and the traffic there is on par with St. Zenon

Spot on. Even been to Old QC city? That would make a great activity(not by sled) but Four Points can get you there.

actionjack is spot on. Hard to beat trails he is speaking of. As long is on the weekday and not a weekend. No weekends near QC city. You gotta be out of your mind.

If you are considering the Mont Laurier area and want a really nice place to impress the wife check out the village windigo not far from Devils Mountain. Super nice place 4 stars with package deals condo, supper, breakfast and all tips and gratuities included. Lots of nice trails and of course Devils mountain. I stayed there with the wife on our last trip to the area and we both were impressed.

Sorry action, I was directing the question at Fuse6, I figured you have been. I was asking him. lol.

Only spend an afternoon in old Quebec City. The summer of 2015 we toured the Gaspe with truck and camper. On the way there spend a couple of nights at Jacques Cartier National Park N of Quebec City. Went into the city for an afternoon. Beautiful place and would be happy to spend some more time there.

Hi Steve.  Mont Laurier region is nice.  Northwest of it in the "Woodrunner" area has good trails and accommodations.

Quebec City to Manior Richelieu on trail 3 is a good ride also but like Iceman said, 3 can get a lot of traffic with the riders going to the casino for the weekend.  Four Points is a nice place to stay.

Chaudiere region also has a lot of options.  We usually stay at Motel Bernieres which is on the south side of the river from Quebec City.  It is about 200 miles to Riviere du Loup from Bernieres.  There are three main trails - 5 typical Quebec trail with a mix of terrain, 35 the famous railbed and 55 a little less traveled than 5 but very nice.  Many accommodations in this area too.

St Zenon can get busy at times.  It was the first area that many people from the States went to and still go there.

I read in your post Lac St Jean is too far.  With that in mind you can disregard this part.  But, if you haven't been there follow along for a minute.  This Thursday we are trucking to St Raymond, northwest of Quebec City, and then sledding to Lac St Jean on Friday.  It is just under 200 miles depending on where you are heading to at the Lac.  We are going to ride Saturday and Sunday out of the hotel and then ride back to St Raymond on Monday.

You didn't mention how many miles you like to do in a day and is it a weekend trip or during the week?  We like in the 175 to 200 miles.  One last thing is to check the groomer map to see what has been groomed.  You're welcome to PM us if you'd like.

Twice my wife and I have dropped trailer and sleds in St Raymond  and gone to Old Quebec City for 2 nights and back to St Ray and ride from there. Old City is real nice and both times was during the Winter Carnival, which is Great !

Agree with others regarding QCity, however, go here if you want to stay in a fortress in the woods! Snowmobiling, dog sledding, spa, unbelieveable 5 Star experience, fine dining, etc. they've even coordinated an ice driving experience in years past.

Sacacomie is nice.

I had heard a few years back that they did not care for Snowmobilers. It may have changed.

Well it's a beautiful place but the both times I've gone ,the trail was like a snow cross track. Reminded me of Tug Hill. It wasn't to long a trail and the view and place is spectacular !

Wow, whoever goes to Sacacomie next,,,,bring me!

Years ago I went by a really cool large hotel on a lake. There were three defined lanes of travel down the lake, snowmobile, ski and skate, a small walking bridge over the lake, ice castles at one end of the lake, and sled dogs in front of the hotel. Looked like a really cool place. Maybe north of Montreal? Maybe someone knows the place, its name, and has stayed there.

Hotel L'Esterel?  Turned into condos I think.

Correct.  Dominique & Martin Gamache used to run the Esterel for like 30 years before they bought Rabaska Lodge for themselves.

Great couple!!

Looks like Resort Esterel is open now including hotel rooms.  We stayed there the winter before the construction started.  The place was needing a rehab but was still enjoyable.  The problem is the location is affected by the closed parts of 43 and 317.
