My new Mistress...from the beginning.

Recommended Posts

While not a thread on sleds, I figured i would share with you all the project taking up every spare minute while not out on the road. The bosses have decided it was time to expand our operations from doing vacuum truck and pressure truck work and venture into the market of Hydro Excavation. Using high pressure water and a big ass vacuum to excavate for construction projects or utility repairs etc.

My new baby arrived in the shop just 2 weeks ago. She is beautiful. 2018 Western Star 4700SB.

500hp with 6 Speed Allison auto trans. Double thick frame. Fully loaded power everything with A/C. She is gorgeous. Not much to see right now, just the basics.

You know what they say...”big trucks.....big bucks” no exception here, Just the cab and chassis was a cool 170k plus tax. That’s naked. Nothing on it yet.

She needs some modifications which we are doing in house before she goes off to receive another steering axle to become a 12 wheeler. Then its off to Levis QC to Supervac for the real construction.

First order of business was to move the two rear axles back 26”. Talk about fun. This is some serious work which includes precisely measuring and rechecking before using the giant drill to pierce all those new holes for all the bolts. Crazy. The drill clamps to frame and uses air to pull it tight to drill(impossible any other way) you are not drilling this frame by hand. Well after many drill bits and almost 2 days of drilling holes. Step 1 is almost complete. Axles are moved back. Just need to re-plumb all the airlines and put tires back on after painting frame where we worked back there.

Next, we will relocate the fuel tank, air tank and air dryer. Truck will leave for Quebec on a tow truck since the drive shaft is now too short. No worries that will be arranged by Supervac as they need to mount a transfer case in the center anyway.

Few photos of the truck in the shop and the others are from the Supervac site. She will look similar to these trucks when finished. There may be many like her, but this one will be mine. No truck this big in the region here. No one has this near here. All in, will be well over 600k plus tax.

That truck is impressive and will be more when finished. The concept of excavating with a vac system is great way for exposing power lines to fiber optics.  We have removed tons of filter media from filter chambers in water treatment plants in North and South Carolina over the years. Always amazed me the amount of material that can be moved with a vac truck in a day. And the different types of material.

For cold weather use will the water tank be equipped with a heater to melt frozen material.  Just wondering.

As for the shop, that is for sure impressive.  Only question I have is that green machine on the shelf your back up or did you get a new ride. LOL. Just kidding.  Have a good day.

Yes, it will be equipped with a heater, i forget how many BTU. Will Run on diesel fuel. Everything critical is in the insulated, heated cabin. Fully designed for the coldest Quebec has to throw at us. 1260 us gallons of water and 3000 gallon debris tank.

The shop is always immaculate, you can eat off the floor. Just next door is the race shop for the dirtcars. Modified and Sportsman. Just as immaculate.

The Green Machine belongs to the boss man’s son. Never even touched the snow last year as he runs the Deneigement ops and construction business zero time to ride. Maybe next year, I will take it for a ride and beat on it a bit.

My sleds are hibernating here at home in the garage.

With all the equipment installed have you calculated your gross weights.  Sounds like it will be heavy. Going to be something special for sure tho. Don't let it take up your snowmobile time.

As for our sleds we made a enclosed trailer for them  a few years ago that is sealed tight enough to keep to everything out.

Don, have a good summer.  Please post finished pictures of your new truck. It's going to be a beast for sure.

Plenty of space for that.

Agreed.  Think a larger sticker is in order.   Perhaps on the side....or better yet, in the center of the black cover on the tank end.

Always nice to get a new toy, very impressive Don and it looks like you’re going to enjoy the new ride, nothing like love’n your work, best therapy.

Is the boss going to leave some room for some Iceman stickys?

This almost looks more exciting than getting a new sled. Sled is pretty predictable but the truck will be a completely new beast by the time you get it completed.  Good luck on the build

She is coming along. It takes quite a bit to fabricate all that from nothing. Not that much to see but the tank and pump are mounted and they are working away. Once all fabbed up it gets taken apart for the paint job. Two weeks just to paint everything.Gonna go back in 4 weeks to check on it further along. Very impressive factory quite incredible the hardware there.
