iceman
There is unrest in the forest Trouble with the trees For the maples want more sunlight And the oaks ignore their pleas Now there's no more oak oppression For they passed a noble law And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe, and saw Miles long

Trail Ryder
On 3/2/2023 at 7:07 PM, snowmaster2112 said: I'm sitting in the back seat of a Subaru with Andre and Ronnie leaving Degelis with a fireman who is taking us 2.5 hours back to St Pamphile to get the truck Jeffrey is in the hospital in RDL Long story short is Andre is leading then Ronnie, Jeffrey and I in the back which is rare. Straight flat section of 571 outside Degelis heading south but some rollers and blind straights. When Andre crested the hill approximately 100-150 ft away is a groomer BROADSIDE in the trail as he was sliding and couldn't make the hill. His dragg kicked sideways and took up the whole trail. One guy...the newbie Ronnie was the only one who with his sled walked away unscathed. Mon Ami Andre is fine but his sled is totalled twice over. I have a knot the size of a tennis ball on my thigh from the handlebar and the 1200 is gonna be OK with a thousand bucks Jeffrey's sled looks OK but he running board is curled pretty bad Point is its nothing short of a BIG miracle someone didn't get killed There's a LOT more to this story that I will get into later. THANKS for everyone's well wishes and I'll get back with more info when I have it @snowmaster2112 I am glad you are OK!
snowmaster2112
Gimping through the work week. It helps that I got a 37 yr old I work with that saves me out a lot of the time on physical stuff. He's really pulling the load this week after hearing/seeing the story last week. Better buy him lunch soon...LOL Wanted to give an update on things. We are all doing better albeit Jeffrey will take a little longer. My leg is only two colors now and feeling better. Have the house and deck/driveway cleared of tree's and awaiting insurance guy this Saturday. It's gonna be ugly. An update on machinery: Andre is dropping off his sled at Performance NC soon and after looking at it before we left last friday it might be fixable. That 2013 year had the hood just pull off and his did and was not damaged. He has some plastics, radiator and spindle/ball joint ripped off but all else appears straight. Might change after dealer goes through it. That thing has near 40K kilometers and runs like a champ. Well cared for. So time will tell. Jeffrey is taking his Sidewinder to dealer for insurance guy to look at but he can see multiple tunnel compromises and quite sure it's totaled. Steering post and handlebars bent too. Picking my sled up from Jeffrey's this weekend and quite sure it just needs some TLC and $$$ and will be fine. So what appeared to be 3 totaled sleds might only be 1 1/2 ....LOL Another tidbit.....Andre told me the groomer operator told him he wasnt out to groom the trail (because TRUST ME it didnt need grooming) but to take the groomer to some other town to help the VTT club out with some event they had and their groomer was broke. Good to know someone could have lost their life over that. Fire chief from Degelis called Andre this week to check on Jeffrey's condition. Trust me....if you ever have some serious shit go down the closer to Degelis you are the better off you will be. Ronnie....(newbie guy) told me asked one of the fireman "does this stuff happen often" and the guy told him "once or twice a week"....Now...I'M SURE he just meant snowmobile "incidents" in general but the fact IS...they dont take this stuff lightly up there. They ARE prepared with all necessary tobagans/track vehicles and everything you can think of to help people out. My hats off to all of them and EVERYWHERE else they do such a good job for us all. So happy to see other QR's still enjoying the beautiful trails and region. It was my last scheduled trip and I was hoping for a "not so dramatic ending" but you take what life throws at you and do the best you can. I know (a week later now) something changed in me when I crested that hill last Thursday. I had thoughts of bagging the snowmobile thing going forward but know deep down that's just NOT me. It's part of me and one of my biggest passions in life. I will (God willing) be out there again but things will be a little different which is a good thing. Plus....I have more food porn pics I want to take....LOL Phil 1, GT Rider, SnomoGary and 3 others

snowmaster2112
Here a pic of the SECOND groomer they had to bring in to untangle the drag and turn it back around. I got video of him almost getting that thing stuck too. wng-2
snowmaster2112
I guess the Club in Degelis insists on grooming that 571 trail in the middle of the afternoon. Put THAT in your memory bank if your ever passing through there.
willyswagon
We've often encountered groomers on the trail during the day during our trips in the Gaspe. Since we usually go early in January we always figured it was the clubs trying to get the best conditions as possible early in the season. We are heading up next week, so it's good to know that it is indeed an all season practice.
NSHM
There are lots of signs on the trails throughout Quebec with a pic of a groomer and a 24 to indicate they can be grooming at any of the 24 hours of the day. Glad nobody was seriously injured.

Glad nobody was seriously injured. Correct sir. Have seen those signs for years and probably saw 4-6 on our Gaspe run. Almost CERTAIN I didn’t see one from PALC to Degelis. That’s is irrelevant though. That trail 571 has been groomed 3 TIMES aim the last week DURING THE Day. And I’d be willing to bet if I could look at history that is when it’s ALWAYS done. In a situation like that (which I don’t have a problem with) maybe the club needs to install a couple signs saying “this trail regularly groomed during day” that’s just my opinion NSHM
NSHM
As a group we're never happy. Not enough snow, too much snow, too warm, too cold, trails not groomed enough, trails groomed too much. It's not easy being us. LOL Speedy recovery to you guys and your sleds!
P Hardy
I think I've met a groomer every time I've ridden that 571 trail, always in the daytime. Sorry for you bad luck, glad you are all well.
Signfan
Yeah it's every riders responsibility to not ride any faster than what you can see ahead of yourself and safely stop for. I hate daytime grooming, but we all have to realize it does occur. Could be a groomer, another sled, a moose or heaven forbid my kids over that next knoll or around that next bend.
