I woke to find the sleds covered in a layer of ice. With no specific destination in mind, we ventured out. Initially, the trail conditions were great, and the air was warm. After a few hours, we stopped at Club Chevaliers / Pohénégamook relais, just as a light mist began to fall. The mist continued to fall throughout our meal, so we decided to call it a day and return to the hotel.
Within ten miles of the hotel, the trail conditions worsened, with pockets of water and long stretches of bare spots. The hotel parking lot and the adjacent gas station had completely bare pavement.
The two images I took don’t fully show the worst of what we encountered, but they give you an idea of how just a few hours of light rain and warm temperatures affected the trails.
Fortunately, a few inches of snow and cooler temperatures are expected overnight, starting as light rain. Additionally, the conditions beyond the ten-mile marker remained unaffected & were great.
