Back in Jackman for a few days. Got to ride a few hours this afternoon. First five miles out of town a little snirty and the groomer pulled up plenty of small rocks to cover the trail, but pretty good after that. Big question will be if there is enough snow on the trails to do any big loops. gkw coming up tomorrow afternoon to join me. Storm in the forecast starting Tuesday, more coastal but maybe 6 to 8 here in the mountains. mike4 points

Here the ride we did yesterday January29 2021 Due to circonstances and other reasons we had not ride much this season and this 2nd real ride for us was really nice. We had good cold weather and even we would like more snow, the actual cover do the job especially with the cold we have. I make you a first video for the ride from home to Koubec And the second one from Koubec to Pourvoirie du lac Blanc where we stopped for lunch. Pourvoirie du Lac Blanc like all other snowmobile relais can't open their dining rooms because of the covid's sanitary measures. LIke many others, they comply with Quebec goverment rules by opening an exterior takeout desk where you can buy some food and they also offer a different interior snowmobile relai section that respect all goverment sanitary rules as for mask/distance etc, where you can bring your food and eat there. It's not like usual but it was really nice to be able to eat in a warm, clean and safe place. When it's not too cold like on our first ride it's not so bad to eat outside but when riding in the -15C and below for many hours, a short break in a warm place to eat was more than appreciated! Kristine had also well appreciate the warm toilets, way more that the cold back of a spruce tree! They also have a big fireplace outside We streched the ride a little bit by making a round trip run to St-Alexis des Monts village and retraced our steps to ride down south towards St-Paulin and join the #3 trail in St-Ursule / Louiseville area and then ride home. There's some small spots with brownish snow and a few knocks in the skis but there is still enough snow to ride well and with the cold, conditions where good to very good on the majority of the ride. Here down the #3 trail south We are already at the very end of January and even there are still a few closed sections(mostly because rivers), the trail network is fairly well connected and we can go pretty much where we want. The 8:00pm curfew and the covid's sanitary rules complicate the puzzle but with some planning and adaptation it is possible to ride and we are just entering in the best part of the season to do it... as usual, more trail condition details and more: https://www.snowmobilecountry.ca/en/conditions/ 2021 sledding season is now! It’s all about priorities. Drinking and driving or Sledding in Quebec. Hmmm?2 points

Other than the last 10 months, where our restrictions are temporary..... this is a great deterrent to avoid drinking2 points

What I understand is yes, quarantine or negative test within 72 hours before arrival. However, I was in the office of this hotel and heard them on the phone telling someone they had to sign a document upon arrival that they quarantined before arrival or got the test results, but the hotel takes their word for it and does not require any proof. Not sure if that is how all hotels are doing this or not.2 points

I agree, keep both hands on the handlebars. Most snowmobilers travel with more then one in their group. My philosophy is there is a sled coming around every corner and over the next crest.2 points

You keep right. I’ll keep right. If you’re pushing through the corners, slow down. Thanks but no thanks for letting me know how many you have behind you. Keep both hands on the bars. Too many close calls that take your breath away these days.2 points

Y'know, for these sorts of observations, it's hard to click on the "Like" button, or a frowny-face emoji, it isn't enough, in any case, thanks for keeping the awareness up, maybe it can be a life-saver, respectfully, thanks,1 point -

If you’re drinking and driving in NY and you get lit up by the police officer behind you...you are screwed! I’m not aware that that has changed.1 point

Your sled?

How convenient, no ID. Based on the rest of the story sounds like he probably wouldn’t have given his ID even if he had it. Riding someone else’s sled, he probably has no insurance of his own. I always thought it would be a shit show trailside either way. The most important thing is your buddy is not hurt. The rest is just cash. You can usually make more of that. Limbs are harder to grow.1 point -
RIP, seems we are losing far more folks than other years, very sad.1 point

Well in theory yes. But the guy apparently had no ID or papers with him. Sled wasn't his, borrowed from an American who likely left it this side of the border. My buddies insurance will cover his regardless but whether they get money from the guy who hit him is a question mark. Will know more later this week. Bad part is nothing moves fast these days and often parts are back ordered, new sleds in general are hard to find, most sold out as everyone wants toys this year. Riding season is very short.1 point

Another trail lost today

I had some young punks have a party near my garage and for fun they damaged 11 vehicles at my shop, 18k worth of damage, we caught them and brought them to court, some of the parents were upset with me and actually asked if I could give them a break???? I told the court the parents were the real problem, they did 6 months in jail and the day they got out came to my shop and damaged my sign in broad daylight right in front of me, one of the fathers was mad that I prosecuted them again, I had an idea of taking care of it myself, but they would have sued me for what ever some liberal jury would give them....really hard to stop this shit!!1 point -

I cannot even imagine how you could even begin to explain how this happened, guy on the skidoo is almost off the trail on the wrong side, not like it is a skinny trail and it is even banked low and right, looks like he should find a new pass time before some one dies. This is the exact reason why I go north to get away from these guys....but i know it could still happen, amazing no one is hurt, very lucky.1 point -
Yup these are morons that their parents never made them listen or do what they’re supposed to do or suffer consequences like a good ass beating if they don’t. There is good riding here in PA still and the local trails are marked like Quebec “please stay on trail or go home” whole bunch of morons rode out through a guys Wheatfield and some of the responses were “this doesn’t hurt anything “ why is he being such a dick. You can’t fix these people....1 point

Unfortunately this is the normal thinking nowadays. No respect is rampant and the real trail riders will pay the price for these actions. Like usual. Problem is zero enforcement. Even if they are caught it’s a ticket for trespassing. Impound the machines with a loss of right to buy a permit next year and take their driver liscenses for 6 months. Make it severe and then maybe just maybe it will occur less likely. I know the police and trail security can’t be everywhere but maybe less worry about checking for mirrors and paperwork and more operations to try to catch some of these morons. If you get caught hunting out of season most places you loose your liscense to hunt so this should be no different.1 point

Just above St Anne Du Lac 2 years ago. Wicked corner right after Range 10e. Knew the boys would be flying out of Laurier / St Anne after a big night. Had stopped about 15 minutes earlier to remind my son to stay right...lol He got an eyeful shortly thereafter. Anyway, I was turning left at maybe 50kph right ski was literally in the ruhbarb.....dude came out of nowhere didn't even try to make the corner. just saw him out of the corner of my eye.....cranked the bars left and into the air I went. Complete flip.....land and all I can hear is another sled coming...... barely get up and out of the way and that lad ends up in the weeds with his pal. I run down the trail from the direction they came from as I hear more coming. Can't get far enough to get the 3rd one slowed so he ditches it as well. Finally got the 4th waved down and 4 other behind. 500km on the sled...not a scratch save for missing suspension. Was fun getting her back to St Anne Du Lac for flatbed back to Laurier. Straight to the boneyard she went after that. Been around that corner 4 times since.....don't think i've broken 15kph 🙂 Lucky nobody got seriously messed up that day for sure.0 points
