  1. Lordy, Lordy holy hijacked thread! LOL! HaHa oh well we’re done anyway! Back to the truck. 83, 355 beautiful all the way to Lac Eduard for lunch. Lotsa sleds from there to shawinigan trails getting whooped. It’s a sat what else is new? Oh well never made it to our planned destination. Improvised and still had a great time. Should be back in 3 weeks for annual end of season Gaspe run! That first pic with Toms comment fits Eric to the T! Perfect!

  2. So we spent the last two and a half days riding the Chaudiere Applaches for the first time. Been hoping to ride this area after Snowfarmer posted couple of his trips here last year. This opportunity came up after we aborted our Cote Nord trip due to the storm first of the week. Wow, what a enjoyable area to ride.Arrived in Princeville(just east of Victoriaville) Wednesday night, having left Sacre Couer mid afternoon. Thursday rode from the hotel DuPre heading for LacEtchemin via Thetford Mines and St. George's. 320 km by the time we arrived at the Manor du Lac Etchemin RoadRunner mentioned above. Of rhe 320 km we rode there was only about 20 that wasn't groomed in the previous 36 hours. Pristine would describe the trails. Friday another 300 km back to Princville making a loop further to the south. Great variety of trails throughout the region. Rolling farm fields then through the sugar bushes. They take their Maple Syrup business serious here. Very impressive pipeline systems and Suger Shacks .Amazed how much fun riding the rolling farm land was. Traffic really picked up mid afternoon Friday. By Friday evening trails were just starting to get bit choppy in spots. Team meeting Friday night to decide if we departed for home Saturday morning or ride one more day. 3 guys decided to head home first thing Saturday morning and 4 of us decided to ride a part day before heading for home. Hit the trails at 7:30 and rode 200 km. Every trail we rode was groomed last night They must have an incredible fleet of groomers in this area to cover the miles they have to maintain. Beautiful sunny weather all 3 days we rode. Two other friends got stranded in Murdochville on Sunday. Took a $350.00 cab ride back to Matane to retrieve their trucks. Was Wednesday morning before they were able to depart by truck. They were heading back to Ontario until we suggested they join us for our CA ride. Worked out well for them to salvage some of their week. I had spent hours researching the Cote Nord, read every post related here on QR posted in the last 5 years.Had hotels booked for the first three nights. This ended up being one of our best Quebec trips after changing all plans 8 hours before departing home after studying the weather forecast. Rest of the week was on the fly. Think we will operate this way more in the future. Picture below is some poor sole truck drifted in at Hotel Coronet Wednesday morning . Just by luck ours were parks on the opposite side of the lot and the wind blew around them. Had to climb in from passenger side, some minor shovelling and had them out. The hotel staff yard man was very helpful to assist us.

  3. This years adventure takes us again, out of the QR territories. We are currently waiting for the ferry to Port au basque Newfoundland. Our scheduled 5 hour ferry ride last night was cancelled from North Sydney NS. But we are on for a 2 pm departure today. Arriving in NL tonight around 7pm .. hopefully! This will not be a high miler run but we are looking forward to lots of snow, great views and lots of good conversations. There are 10 of us and we will be covering the north eastern tip of NL, from Deer Lake, and north. Happy hour in the trailer last night waiting for the ferry was the high light last night after an 11 hour drive! A blue sky day today is in order for the sail! Happy trails RR

We head back to explore the west side of the island. Along the way we spot a cafe we’re coming back. The island is 14k long. We make our way to the west end check the view and head for the cafe. We have some caffeine and a nice chat with the owner. He says he’s had people from Vt, NH but we are the first from NY. Its getting late I will continue later.

We back track and make a right. It takes us to the lighthouse. The wind has coated ice all around here. The building next to the lighthouse has about a foot coating top to bottom. I am switching taking photos with iPhone and my camera so pics I’m looking for aren’t on the iPhone.

  10. My first sled was a new '65 Olympique, so I remember fondly all those old sleds. Today was another perfect day of riding, St.. Pamphille for lunch. Trails flat and smooth as silk. Happy hour with Jak and Jack. Then Jack and I had a fantastic meal at Symposium (an earlier post I mistakenly called it Suspension Restaurant). Later a drink in the Bar with Eastmark and wife Lisa. Then a huge honor, Gt Rider was in the lobby and introduced me to Towing (Alain) and wife Krista. GT Rider and Towing in the same room. It doesn't get any better. Hopefully GT rider writes up about his ride to Isle Verte, sounds great. (He is posting on the Gaspe section, Gemma's pictures are wonderful). Perfect Day. Even stopped by police for a paperwork check. They were really friendly and nice. Saw Canadian AAA picking up a broken down Polaris. And got up this morning and thought my sled had a litter of kittens. mike

  11. Surprisingly I actually got a call from BRP after they read the letter I sent. I asked the person if he knew Mr Primrose or if he had visited the dealership... no i asked why he called me...we value you as a customer. I asked why they want to terminate Jims as I know for a fact that it isn’t a sales volume or CSI issue as Jims ranks very high in both. Didn’t answer but that would leave 2 things..,facility or corporate agenda. Guessing faculty has a lot to do with it. Im certain the BRP powers cringe when they go to Jims. The shop wouldn’t meet their standards nor would the showroom but really ... who cares? Certainly not me. Simply put ... people buy from people. You can find a nicer showrooms and shops anywhere. Better people or service...NOT Shared those thought with the gentleman that called me. Think he understood. That said, not sure it will have any effect on things. All we can do is hope👍

  12. Monday 9:30 start Top the sleds off… didn’t put any gas the extra cans as the ride to L Etape isn’t that long and I can see we have a group that left earlier in front of us… Wow.. this is awesome.. deep snow in trail to play in. Shortly up the trail we catch up to the a couple of rider in front of us… One of the two 900 widtracks missed the corner and is off the trail and stuck. We dig it out and then join them to continue on. Up the trail aways we find a 1200 in deep that tried to turn around. He is with the two rides we just met. We dig him out and keep going.. Now we are a group of 5. As we make our way and are getting close to L Etape, we come across another two rides on 1200 shorties. These two are with the three guys we met earlier. One of the 1200’s is out of gas.. (This is one that was out front doing all the work with no one in front of him). I pull out my syphon hose, grab my reserve can and pull two gallons from the 900. Shortly after that we make l etape and it is about 2pm. Full of gas and food.. we are on our way! The group of 5 are behind us and we have a group of 3 riding Yamaha Venture in front of us… It is still snowing and now the wind has come up. We stay with this group until we Mt Apica and then part ways. They stayed to warm up and had plans to stay on 23 and we were taking 368. We leave Mt Apica.. The trail is flat and fast and firm…. At the intersection of 23 and 368 we find 368 covered no tracks and blown over.. no problem.. not deep we head on… Stopped to take pictures of the path through the white birch trees. Picture! We get to the intersection of 368 and 383.. still light out.. still snowing.. and wind has come up more… We get down to the section by the aluminum Plant the drifts are big and soft… no problems and this is fun.. We get to the gas station…. Top them off. The temperature has dropped a lot and now it is dark. We go back out… No far to go… look to get to 83 and into town.. And……. It gets ugly.. the wind is up… really up… blowing snow sideways and dark… still not far to go so we take it slow.. I came to the corner of the field for the local trail to the mt valin hotel… in a white out! I saw the trail but didn’t see the hotel sign.. I’m looking at that trail and thinking.. now is not the time to explore a local trail.. so we stay on 368 and follow the markers and tracks and get back into the woods.. not bad we can see… on the other side of woods is another field.. I can see across it to bridge… After that bridge… we come around a slight corner and now the wind is really bad and visibility.. almost nothing but we are going slow… drifted snow is getting deep.. but I have tracks to follow… As I got closer to that Barn couldn’t see anything… kept going.. found the yellow sign on the side of the barn and drove around it… wow.. we can see again… cool… still thinking not that far. I crossed the road.. could see ok… went down the trail to the next junction with the local trail… looked at the red stakes… thinking we take it slow! The next 3km… were nothing short of OMG. I can’t see... Between my light.. and the headlight behind me… and the wind blowing snow sideways… the light was being reflecting back making it impossible to see. At several points I’m looking down to my side looking for tracks on the sections of trail that didn’t have drifting snow and checking the ski tracks to make sure I’m still on course ( no BS on that statement) We got to the section that is long and straight.. I had to stop.. get off the sled and walk a drift.. I couldn’t tell how high or long it was or what was on the other side. Z16 comes up and says….I can see you right in front of me. Then you disappear and reappear and I’m thinking.. I have been looking at you head light this entire time… but honestly.. it is that bad! I know this is bad… I have concerns about riding into a drainage ditch…or getting stuck deep in a drift…or ??? I’m honestly thinking I need to make some really good decisions from this point to get us out of this. If I have walk every 50 feet at this point then ride it.. I will! So that is what we started to do.. We started walking the drifts.. making sure they were solid and we had firm place to stop on the other side that we would still be on the trail… Ohh and it is is blowing at least a steady 35 +.. no breaks with wind or blowing snow just a steady white out… very freaky Shortly after we start this.. 4 sleds appear out of now where going in the opposite direction… OK these guys are nuts but this good for us. No we have tracks to follow. Those tracks from the sleds didn’t last 2 minutes but that gave us enough to get time to get through and make it to the road. Back into the woods and out of wind… safe… From this point to 83.. not that bad… ok it was bad… but we made it to 83.. had tracks to work with and much much better visibility… if we can see…. We can go.. Went up the trail, turned off the power line.. though some deep drifts into the next field, cross the road, then acros the railroad tracks turned right and …. Nothing to see but a 3 to 4 ft drifst… the ditch and the railroad tracks… and howling blowing snow… visibility.. 10 feet.. maybe… So I walked it and Nope we are done.. it was all soft. We turned around.. went back to road… Road looks good…. The road it is! We head down the road… OMG it had drifted huge into the road… we found a car stuck in a drift.. we helped them dig out and pushed the car out and kept going. Got to a gas station.. pulled the map out… I’m at the gas station Petro-Canada at the corner of 170 and Chemin de L’Eglise.. I can ride down 170 or ??? we asked the gas station… he said go up Chemin de L’Eglise about 3.5 km and cut across to the hotel Mt valin…. I didn’t want to go back into the field.. any field at this point… So up the road we go on Chemin de L’Eglise ( it had been closed because massive drifts in the road) We found the trail, went around the barn wow we can see.. maybe 150 ft but enough to go.. Made it to the hotel.. safe 7:30 pm

  13. We meet trail security out on trail 3 just outside Quebec. At this point it is snowing like you read about. The visibility in the fields has been awful. They check our stickers and make sure Z16 has a drivers licence and then ask us about our destination. I’m thinking Baie ST Paul. They advised us to turn around and go back or go to ST Raymond. He stated conditions were about to get really ugly. Ok I’m thinking we are tourist and they are looking out for our best interest and it is around 1 pm. So we take the advice and head to ST Raymond and pull into Roquemont for lunch. From this point, we can ride to La tuque or park the sleds… With the sleet now coming down and the warning from trail security.. I’m thinking park them. I picked up the second to last room… 95 miles in.. safe warm… smart.

  15. Our Quebec trip Sunday 2/24 through Wed 2/27 Myself and my 16 year old nephew. ( he doesn’t have Quebec rider handle yet) so for this story… I’m going to refer to his at Z16 Saturday all packed up and ready to go. Truck is full and we are on our way….. We pass through the Hooksett toll booth on 93 and as we pulled away, something didn’t sound right. I pull over check the trailer and find all the lug nuts backed off (luckily still on) on the left side wheel. The wheel is trashed. I had recently replaced both tires as they were chopped and it would appear I didn’t tighten this side up enough. No panic … grabbed one of my two spare tires… changed it and we are back on our way… We made it to the Hotel Drakker in Shawinigan by 11:30 pm. (Very nice place and the owner and his wife are wonderful) www.aubergemoteldrakkar.com Sunday around 9:30 we have our stickers on, sleds packed up and we have just had a great breakfast at the Drakker. Our destination is unknown as I’m kinda making it up as we go at this point. Z16 isn’t concerned as he just wants to ride. It’s not his first day as we have done server trips in NH since he was 11 but it is his first Quebec Trip now that he is 16. I had advised his to Bring his Big Boy Pants and reminded him that things can happen fast… stay right , be smart… this isn’t a race. It is starting to snow!

We are looking across the ice at the island Notre-Dame-Des-sept-Douleurs. I’m looking for the trail across to see if it’s doable today. There is a small building on the shore where we spot the tree line across. There’s a few snowmobiles heading over. Off we go. When we get across we bare right along the shore following the trees. We pull up at the clubhouse.

Once again thanks to Mike for the loan of your tools and stand. We head out and take 526 to 85 to 567 east. The trails are looking good. We spot a big white rooster tail in the distance. 27. I’m sure there are many here that have dealt with Jims Performance Plus a family run BRP dealer in Iroquois Ont. Sadly the powers that be at BRP have decided they would like a fancy new dealership in Cornwall and as a result have terminated their dealer agreement with Jims. Those of you that know Jims know there is nothing fancy there... just good people that care about their customers. I could write a book about what they have done for me on weekends including Sundays, after hours during the week etc. I'm sure many could. I get corporate mandates and all that stuff. Just sad to see good people get caught up in situations like this. Anyway here’s a post from one of their customers. I had sent a letter to BRP earlier having been made aware of the situation. I know Jim, Patti, Leo, Lisa and the rest of the staff would appreciate your support :) CLOSING... I try not to get involved in politics, but this time it is personal. BRP as a corporate company has decided to attempt to close JIM’S PERFORMANCE in Iroquois and the Alexandria BRP location to open up a new store in Cornwall. What I would like from you if it is at all possible is a letter stating why you think they should stay in business. I am grasping at straws to show BRP that closing JIM’S would be devastating to the dealership and customers. If you could either or both send a letter to BRP and to me as I will compile all the letters together and send to them to make noise. Please feel free to reach out to Patti and Jim as well, they need our support. 32. As a rider who enjoys both on and off trail, I think some additional education and resources would go a long way. We have spent a lot of time researching our off trail trips, we are always looking for legal places to play...it would be great to have a map that depicts this. Will this fix the issues, absolutely not - we are driving as I type this and every farm field with a trail we pass has corners cut and tracks everywhere...my guess is that most of these tracks are from trail riders, not those seeking out deep powder. I think if the snowmobile community works together, we can build something that caters to all riding types! - Our off trail trip was out of Pourvoirie Wapishish in February, we had a great time and never laid a track on the trails! - Think Snow

your report and pictures are outstanding Jim! I really enjoy. Glad for you that the trail conditions get back to normal, I really know what it is to ride two-up in those conditions: you are strong ones! I read that you are staying a couple day in Rivière du loup, we are driving today to Hotel Universel in RDL to launch sunday morning from there, aligning our skis toward New Brunswick. I don't know if you stay at Universel but if so it would be great to meet you again and chat a bit. I leave you a pm. enjoy your trip, keep the rubber on the down side, but not too deep!!! Alain

  38. What a great trip posting Terry! You’re an adventure writer in your second career indeed. Fun to read along & even better to have been there riding with you!! Was a fantastic 4.5 days of riding some amazing trail conditions. Going north & west was the right choice given all the snow & high winds. The groomers were 12 hours ahead of us almost the entire trip. Quebec snowmobiling at its finest! So much snow that if you got just inches off the area where the prior groomers had passed you dropped like a rock! Or a Yamaha!

After our break we head back to 35. We take it to Pohenegamook. We stop to fuel up. The trails are nice we are having great luck today. After fueling up we take 35 to the 85 intersection and head back to RDL. We hit about 10 miles of beat trail on 35 before getting to 85. Once we hit 85 it’s it’s fresh groomed. We pass a groomer going the opposite direction without a drag. He is just traveling on the trail. About 10 miles later we catch the groomer that is making our white carpet. When we pass him the trail is really good. He is making good perfect. We get to the hotel at 7. We had a great day.

The 55 is also very nice. I see a gas station at Sainte Perpetue and am thinking should I stop. We keep going. We make our way to the golf course clubhouse At the 55/557 intersection. There are a lot of snowmobiles there. I am looking for a gas pump now. I decide to turn back to the last one. It’s a 10 mile back track. Ok back we go I get on 557 instead of staying on 55 to the Saint Pamphile clubhouse (our destination). 557 is beautiful. The trail is super. One problem I haven’t stopped for Gemma to use a restroom and there is nothing on this trail. No pictures I have to move. We back track 35 to 557 to the intersection of 5 and stop at the clubhouse for a quick snack.

  45. Good morning Joe. Eddy O & Liam did not travel with us on this journey. Eddy O did come with us a few weeks back to Caribou. Liam is a freshman attending Binghamton University & during school break he chose to stay behind & visit with the girlfriend despite speaking all year of the anticipated annual trip. Needless to say Liam lost a few favorable points with me....First year of college and he is ruined. Ha ha On Monday we left RDL, Tuesday Matane, Wednesday Maria outside of New Richmond, Thursday Rimouski & back to RDL in 2.5 hours arriving @ 1130. A quick change, load trailer, and stock up on Cadbury chocolate @ the neighboring fuel stop & on the black trail @ 1pm arriving in Pittsburg at 7pm with 2' + - of new snow to shovel to get in the door. Referring to supporting QR where do we stand with the QR referral cards written in French where the card states in sum & substance we are eating / sleeping here because the business was referred too on QR? The entry level receptionists / hostesses we mentioned QR too were unaware of the QR website. The idea of providing the card written in French with contact information for advertising on QR is optimal. For purposes of supporting this site I regret I didn't have any cards to offer. Attached are a handful of photos depicting the fantastic trail conditions & weather we encountered.
